COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Røyk Uten Ild (Smoke Without Fire) is our smoky beer, here we have tried to make a beer as smoky as we can using our smoked malt from Weiermann. We have made a fairly dark and flavourful beer. Apart from the special malt the rest of the malt bill (86%) is smoked malt. You could also say that this is a smoked wheat beer, because we have used our wheat beer yeast here. The beer is not scary but actually very nice even for those that aren’t smoke beer fanatics....try it and you will see. Contains malted barley, Amarillo hops, wheat beer yeast, and lots of smoked malt from Bamberg, Germany. 8% alc, 33 ibu, 48 ebc. Serving temp 8 - 12C or 46 - 53F.

500 ml bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Pour is a hazed brown caramel color along with a smallish off white head. Aroma is smoke, earthy peat and some mild tart black cherry. Interesting nose, aromas play together nicely. Taste is heather, smoke, earthy peat, along with the mild black cherry sweetness of the nose. Taste is a bit less integrated than the nose, but is still quite nice. Palate is medium to heavy, sparse carbonation, with a lingering peat mineral finish. Interesting beer, well executed. Thanks for sharing this one Eugene!

Smoked malt aroma, not much else. Very pleasant. Moderate smoke, some citrus and fruitiness and a nice malt backing. Soft mouthfeel. Tasty stuff.

Bottle, at Håndverkerstuene. It’s a very dark brown beer, a nice, dense, beige head sits on top. Its aroma is smoked and meaty, bacon like and woody, with some roasted notes and a hint of sourness. Slightly sourish flavor with some licorice and a little smoke, not as smoked as the aroma. Roasted malts and some sweetness too, finishing sweet and roasted. Full body. A quite lovely smoked beer, but I would like it a bit more pronounced, especially the smoke flavor. 100820

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark amber body with a one finger fizzy beige head that left a good deal of lacing. The nose was moderately smoky at first, but the more it warmed the more the smoke came to the fore. There’s a really nice authentic "campfire" like quality to the smoke character that I really crave from Smoked beers that this exhibits. Some nice sweet maltiness, and a touch of hops. The flavor is nicely smoky, intense enough to please even this Smokehead. It almost has the intensity of a Schlenkerla, but also has a fairly aggressive hoppiness that truely makes it unique. Medium bodied and very drinkable (so long as you like Rauchbiers) with moderate soft fizzy carbonation. The slightly high ABV is rather well hidded. I liked this one alot, one of the best Smoked beers outside of the Schlenkerla line-up.

500 ml bottle, batch #273, one of 1080 bottles for this batch. The pour yields a dark, slightly transparent chestnut brown to mahogany body. A small but well-packed head of smooth khaki foam slowly pushes out towards a thick, pronounced edge with just a swirly center film. A few tall, diagonal flares of lace mark the glass. Aromas are clearly driven by the smoked Bamberg malt, suggesting strongly of beechwood over mildly sweet sassafras, rye bread dough, and well-attenuated brown sugar. Distant wisps of salty pork cracklins are soothed by notes of root beer, dry cocoa, and vanilla, as mild green hops add just a touch of earthen aromatics. Flavors largely follow suit, showing notes of creamed wheat, rye dough, and toasted caramel, with a bold beechwood smoke overtone and spicy-sweet sassafras and molasses. Green, almost grassy hops are stronger than the nose lets on, lending a welcomed balancing bitterness to the back end. Baking cocoa adds a bittersweet component as well. The palate sports a moderate body that drinks fairly easily, peppered with deceptively and increasingly lively, yet fine carbonation. The active effervescence intensifies towards the finish, drying things out, leaving an almost papery, slightly oxidized feel. Overall, it is a fine rauchbier clone. Though it hails from Norway, few things (one obviously being ale yeast) set it apart from its fine Bavarian cousins.
