3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nydelig mørk farge med stort tett skum. Smaken er noe søt med fyldig maltpreg og en del mindre røyksmak enn jeg hadde forventet. En god øl som varer.

DØE 2013: Brown coloured and hazy. Has an off-white head, lasting. Malty aroma, lightly smoked. More smoke in the flavor, sweetness, harmonic, bitter finish. Faint bitter.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow! The aroma of this beer cannot be adequately described. It smells from the first moment we opened the bottle like someone had unpacked a delicious smoked sausage; instantly mouth-watering and unique, layered atop the scent of good beer.
Aroma: Delicious smoked sausage, and good beer. The use of the wheat ale yeast means that it carries a much lighter aroma for the beer than one would expect; but it’s absolutely and by far the most delicious smelling beer I’ve ever had the pleasure of engaging.
Appearance: Pours a dark cola with very thin tan head.
Taste: Very, very reminiscent of Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, with a gentle astringency and powerful earthy malt tones that fade into strong chocolate/coffee notes at the back. Sweet and delicious. The taste develops across multiple sips, opening up wonderfully.
Palate: Pleasantly astringent with light carbonation, a little residual fizz and moderate astringency on the tongue and palate.
Overall: This is the best smelling beer I’ve ever enjoyed. By far. I want to sit and huff this beer for hours. Taste-wise, it’s an excellent stout-like taste with a little more hops than I’d like, but it is delicious nonetheless. If you’re looking for a real pleaser and enjoy aromatic stouts/imperial stouts, this one is absolutely for you.
Hats off to Haandbryggeriet!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy. Deep red-brown body with a finely bubbled head that shows mediocre retention. Aroma is sweet caramel, meaty smoke, undercurrents of dark fruits. The meaty smokiness plays nicely off the sweet malts here, with enough balance to allow underlying flavours of raisins and chocolate to shine through. Dry, peanut-skin bitterness. Marred slightly by an overabundance of carbonation.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500 ml bottle courtesy of jesterdeal. Thanks. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown color with a big foamy khaki colored head that has great retention. The aroma is somewhat mild for a smoked beer with smoke, roasted grains and some ripe dark fruits. The taste is wonderfully complex with Bamberg smoked malts, wheat, dark chocolates, leather and bitter walnuts. The palate is full and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry with a bit of lingering smoke. Overall: Very tasty--Great smoked beer.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Røyk Uten Ild pours a murky opaque dark brown with a fluffy and slightly creamy beige head that fizzes up and dies to a thin spotty head. A few light splotchy beige lacing marks can be found on the glass with a few swirls. The nose has a mild floral and citrus based hop that is soon overblown by a prominent but not overpowering smoked malt note. Hints of chocolate and a mild lightly roasted coffee also become apparent. In general the smoked malts are rather mild and not entirely overblown in the aroma. The first sip I took has a bit of sweetness and a mild chocolately roasted malt. The hops are entirely missed in the flavour with an encroaching smokey ashtray that covers the entire mid palate. The flavour profile is not overblown with smoke and ash but not much is detectable amidst the smoke. The finish has a rather heavy bitterness and a lingering smoke and drying astringency. The finish is heavy with lingering smoke and a warmth attributable to the 8% ABV. Overall, a rather good modern twist on traditional Rauchbier.

From bottle. Amazing smoky aroma, not overpowering and not subtle, just right. For flavor I’m picking up dark cherry, hickory, a bit of chocolate. All work well together. Would love to air this with BBQ brisket.

Pours deep amber with a foamy tan head. Aroma has nice smoke...slight metallic and band aid notes. Flavor is nice and campfire smoky...a bit bacony in a great way. Mouthfeel is light and the finish is light and smoky/bacony...dries out and lingers.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
In short: A heavy meaty-leathery sweet smoked dark lager
How: Bottle 500ml, consumed a few months after receiving it through private importation.
The look: Dark brown body topped by a medium beige heard with medium retention.
In long: Nose is medium-high smoky, a bit meaty, a certain leathery and earthiness. Taste is meaty earthy malts, wet leather, a strong rye sensation (although I’m almost certain this is not a rye-based beer), cooked caramel, a certain spiciness, toasted wheat, tobacco. A ton of carbonation which would be too much for most beers but here I think this the excessive carbonation helps the beer not tasting like a burnt steak wrapped in leather. I also thought the beer felt like a lager but looks like it is an ale, so I have no clue what I’m talking about and I should just shut up. Far from a highly drinkable beer, this beer feels very heavy although once again the excessive carbonation helps drinkability. Not a very good beer, however I’m giving it bonus points because there was something original about this beer that is hard to describe with words. This is my 100th Smoke rating, another milestone, and with over 5000 ratings I’m starting to be afraid that girls may be interested in me just because I’m a top-rater on ratebeer, but I was told I should not worry about this to happen, really not, absolutely not.
