3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
In short: A heavy meaty-leathery sweet smoked dark lager
How: Bottle 500ml, consumed a few months after receiving it through private importation.
The look: Dark brown body topped by a medium beige heard with medium retention.
In long: Nose is medium-high smoky, a bit meaty, a certain leathery and earthiness. Taste is meaty earthy malts, wet leather, a strong rye sensation (although I’m almost certain this is not a rye-based beer), cooked caramel, a certain spiciness, toasted wheat, tobacco. A ton of carbonation which would be too much for most beers but here I think this the excessive carbonation helps the beer not tasting like a burnt steak wrapped in leather. I also thought the beer felt like a lager but looks like it is an ale, so I have no clue what I’m talking about and I should just shut up. Far from a highly drinkable beer, this beer feels very heavy although once again the excessive carbonation helps drinkability. Not a very good beer, however I’m giving it bonus points because there was something original about this beer that is hard to describe with words. This is my 100th Smoke rating, another milestone, and with over 5000 ratings I’m starting to be afraid that girls may be interested in me just because I’m a top-rater on ratebeer, but I was told I should not worry about this to happen, really not, absolutely not.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Farmers Cabinet. Very dark brown pour with a lasting tan foamy ring. Plenty of smokiness. Feeling some earthy wood elements as well. The wittbier flavors have been mostly burned away. No particular sour element (only mentioning this because most Haands seem smoked and soured.) Nice clean smoked beer without any pungent Rauch element.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
This bottle was two years old. There was a moderate smokiness to the aroma but it wasn’t too strong. The flavour has the smokey bacon type flavour with warming alcohol and a rich maltiness. I think due to the age of the beer some of the smoke had decreased and the flavour was starting to appear a little dull and stale.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20

Pours brown color with a small head. Aroma of burnt malts, smoke, some coffee hints and caramel. Flavor of burnt malts, caramel, faint wheat notes and toffee. A bit weird but good.
