COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Røyk Uten Ild (Smoke Without Fire) is our smoky beer, here we have tried to make a beer as smoky as we can using our smoked malt from Weiermann. We have made a fairly dark and flavourful beer. Apart from the special malt the rest of the malt bill (86%) is smoked malt. You could also say that this is a smoked wheat beer, because we have used our wheat beer yeast here. The beer is not scary but actually very nice even for those that aren’t smoke beer fanatics....try it and you will see. Contains malted barley, Amarillo hops, wheat beer yeast, and lots of smoked malt from Bamberg, Germany. 8% alc, 33 ibu, 48 ebc. Serving temp 8 - 12C or 46 - 53F.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark amber body with a one finger fizzy beige head that left a good deal of lacing. The nose was moderately smoky at first, but the more it warmed the more the smoke came to the fore. There’s a really nice authentic "campfire" like quality to the smoke character that I really crave from Smoked beers that this exhibits. Some nice sweet maltiness, and a touch of hops. The flavor is nicely smoky, intense enough to please even this Smokehead. It almost has the intensity of a Schlenkerla, but also has a fairly aggressive hoppiness that truely makes it unique. Medium bodied and very drinkable (so long as you like Rauchbiers) with moderate soft fizzy carbonation. The slightly high ABV is rather well hidded. I liked this one alot, one of the best Smoked beers outside of the Schlenkerla line-up.

(Sample Date: 1/19/2011 Source:BrewEngineer) Apple like smoke over creosote and dark fruit notes with a faint sourness. Slightly cloudy dark amber brown with small fluffy tan head. Smoky flavor with lots of roasty character. Light bitter stringency. Light to medium body and mouth feel. Finish is dry with some nice warming. Tasty.

Malzröstiger, rauchiger aber auch fruchtiger Geruch nach Waldbeereen mit holzigen Einschlägen. Stark schinkenrauchiger Start. Mitte fruchtig beerig, süßlich-rauchig. Abgang dunkelmalzig-süß, rauchig, leicht alkoholisch. Ausdrucksvolles und sehr schönes Bier.

Bottle - Black pour with tan head. Smoke (obviously) but also a fair amount of sweet malt and a hint of ham hocks. Very sweet up front with only a hint of the smoke, then a smokey caramel malt taste and a smokey finish. Rich smmooth palate lovely.

from Erzbierschof - quite clear very dark beer with a poor head retention; fairly smokey aroma with notes of fire, tobacco and cold ashes; a good malt body; very tasty and pretty juicy; some earthy bitterness and a long smokey bitterness with notes of black cherries and licorice - quite original and very pleasant

Deep prune with a ruby glow. Huge and persistent lathery cap of light beige foam. Airy, peppery phenols and enchantingly dusty yeast line the nose along with sassafras, browned toffee, cocoa, licorice, tobacco, and fruitcake aromas. Soft, expansive carbonation. Lustrously fruity and explosive, initially, with a hearty, body-sustaining punch of smoke laced with an abundance of juicy melanoidin and lush bread notes. Vague tartness and an irony coarseness exude briefly, though the deeply resonant malt displaces much of it. Dusty yeast adds intrigue and finespun nuance as it cuts the sweetness, as does a very subtle scratch of roast. Slippery wheatlike twang couples with spicy phenols to breathe vitality into the body’s core while balancing the polished and artfully layered malt. Awe-inspiring attenuation, all around. Residual sugars deposit a semi-weighty tackiness akin to liquified toffee and chocolate mousse which provide just enough tongue-coating viscosity to satiate yet not overshadow any of the dazzling malt nuances. Finishes lightly leathery and bittersweet with sharp charcoal being squelched by everlasting silky melanoidins. Wow, the character has Bavaria stamped all over it. Ridiculously richly malty yet equally quaffable, with Haand’s yeast of divinity on full display. Barring the very mild tartness, this is flawless.
