3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 maniac (3474) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUL 12, 2011
Bottle on 12/11/2010 courtesy of BrewEngineer. Batch 246. Total bottles 2160. Bottled 24.11.09. Slightly hazy copper amber body with a large rocky off-white head. Slightly musty fruit and grain aroma. Somewhat tart fruit flavor with some dry gritty musty character. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle shared with esp0r at Øl og matfestivalen.
Hazy copper color with enormous white head. This bottle was one of the lively ones from Haandbryggeriet that just can’t get out of the bottle fast enough :)
Kind of smokey aroma with berries, brett if I get it right.
Taste is unsurprisingly sour with more yeast character, sweet malts and more of those berries. Pretty good overall.

29.06.2011. 0,5l Bottle. Batch 246, Brewed 25.09.2009, BB 25.09.2011. Baran Cafe, Bergen. A little hazy golden amber colour. Aroma dominated by sourness, yeast and smoke. This beer is not as dramatic as the Tyttebær from Nøgne. There are notes of wild yeast that are very sharp, and almost uncomfortable. But there is also these very nice bitter flavours and yeast flavours that are new to me and very interresting.

Bottle shared at Oslo Mat og Ølfestival. Extreme carbonation, opened bottle just pops with the beer expanding out of it. Copper red, thick white head. Fresh aroma, alot of berries and distinct smoke. Taste is medium malty, sweet and sour all together. Nice! Good finish with some bitter edge
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 adnielsen (6213) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 22, 2011
Bottle @ home. This one was a huge gusher upon opening like another Haandbryggeriet that I had. Very colorful ruby red appearance with red/ivory head. Fairly sour, cranberry fruity, and fairly funky nose. Quite funky, cranberry, mild to medium sour flavor. The flavor reminds me of kissing a smoker. That kind of dull ash flavor. There isn’t really a smoke flavor per se, but it has that cigarette aftertaste in addition to the fruit and the funk. Somewhat interesting but nothing too special.

18/05/2011 50cl bottle @ Klaas’ place - BB: 25/09/11 Bottled: 25/09/09 (2011-215) Thanks to Klaas for the bottle!
Cloudy dark amber to copper red beer, off-white creamy head, bit stable, non adhesive. Aroma: spices, yeast, a bit dirty or earthy, fruity, little sweet, pinetrees. MF: light carbon, medium body. Taste: smoke, wood, very malty, spices, citrus. Aftertaste: little bitter, spices, a little tart finish. It’s like walking in the woods with your axe, cleaving a tree, rubbing on the rough splintered wood with some berries and pine needles and then licking it. Funky stuff.
3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Floback (484) - Naples, Florida, USA - MAY 17, 2011
Bottle from Knightly Spirits. My second beer of the night that’s from Norway and brewed with cranberries. Pours a reddish amber with an off-white head that recedes very quickly. Tight curtains of lacing. The aroma is quite subtle, but once my olfactories hooked onto it, I caught hints of cherry soda and farmhouse funk. Flavors are woodsy, almost smokey: notes of tree bark, subtle dark fruits, and earth. Aftertaste of green grape. Medium/high carbonation and medium body. The taste is intriguing, though subdued. Refreshing and tasty overall.

Sample from 0.5l bottle. Pours a really beautiful light hazy orange-reddish body with a small low sidesticking off-white head. Aroma is wild-sour with tart dandelion, dry sugar, red berries like red currants, cowberries and lightly smoked peat. Body is medium, has a oily to sticky texture and is lively carbonated. Flavors are much the same as the aroma: Nice and dry tarty-bitter dandelion, sour red currants, cowberries and a smoky twist in the finish. The alcohol is leaving your throat stingy and warming. Quite pleased that I got to try this brew, as they most likely won’t make it again. Nice!

Bottle. Finally had the chance to taste this Norwegian oddity before the bottles start to go bad! :-) It pours a clear orange body with a red hue, topped by a medium off-white head. Nose is complex and original: brett tones, red currants, cranberries, acidic barnyard funk and hints of smoke, burnt plastic and cured meat. Wow. This is pretty wild all right. Taste is very sour, with bitter tones of red berries with a lot of smokey notes in the aftertaste. Very refreshing, while at the same time being utterly weird. Great pairing with the malty deer stew with rice and cranberry jam with which we enjoyed it. :-) Although it’s not a beer to be consumed in large quantities, this is a great sour and totally underrated in my opinion. Wish they make it again.

Wow! This is wild! In a bad way.......like gamey. Begs to be paired with food. Definitely don’t think of it as a sour. It’s weak and wild. Pasty. Barrel ash, unique, open minded, mild wild, Norwegian air, once, trees.
