Wow. About the last thing I expected to find in Mexico was a locally brewed porter (their definition, although it’s not too far off the mark). The bottle is amazing, and the beer’s not bad either. It’s a bit malty and treacly, but has a good deal of caramelly character, with a smoky, chocolate, coffee flavour. Quite nice, and certainly unique.

(500 ml bottle, Lot 107) Big creamy tan head atop clear red-black body, leaves nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, anise, light smoke, some astringency. Taste is medium sweet, smoke, roasted, anise, light caramel, chocolate. Watery light-medium body.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2006 Great!, Finally a bock beer in Mexico, I like latin Bock Beers, Moza, Caracú and now , Potro. It has a toasted grains flavor and it’s ellow at the top, just like other bock beers with high quality.

Lot 107: Dark black with a thick brown head. The aroma however is smokey, electical fire smokey, not quite right. Chocolate and roasted flavors. The palate is thickish, but it has a chaulky texture. When I bought it, I was told it was best served very cold, and it probably is, but it’s just not a great beer.

Bottle: Black with a heavy brownish head that quickly dissolves. Smells of burnt coffee and chocolate, taste is bitter and smokey. Comes in a very cool blue bottle with a long neck. Not the best brew though.
