Pours with a small, off white head that is mostly diminishing. The beer has lively cabonation in a dark brown hue - hue is so dark it is almost black. The aroma is of dark fruits - especially plums, prines, and dates, with hints of coffee, molasses, and caramel. Taste is very coal-flavored and smokey. Initially tastes like coffee and quickly turns into a sour, salty soy-sauce like taste - weird. When you drink the beer, beware of the ashy smell, and moldey basement smell permeating from the glass. The beer has a watery mouth feel, and it is light to medium on the palate. The bottle is beautifully made and is a work of art - looks a little like a tequila bottle.

Yeah it’s a bit dirty and damp and imperfect and coal-flavoured, but well and truly ALIVE and probably the best Iberian/S.American/C.American/Carribean dark beer I’ve ever had. Bottle is a work of art, so a bonus point for that before I’ve even started. Glugs from the blue neck with wafts of smoke, apple, blackcurrant, cocoa and English sulphur. Blindfolded, would wager my own head this was an ashy dark effort from Church End, Tunnel or Griffin Inn. Warwickshire ash and coal dust. Pours almost pitch with a thick tan collar that collapses rapidly. In the mouth, sourish bramble notes and smoky cocoa mingling. Splash of coffee. Maybe some nuttiness after the swallow. Flattish but tasty like an end-of-festival English (Burton/N.Warwickshire) brambly/sulphurous stout. Nothing world-beating, admittedly, but a surprisingly real-tasting and complex smoky dark beer beyond that shameless and beautiful bottle.

Dark brown with a fleeting head. Mild aroma of malted chocolate and grains. Light bodied with a watery mouthfeel. Mild flavor of roasted malts and cocoa is lightly sweet. Nice bottle.

bottle @ home. Not that i know a lot of mexican porters, but with this atrocity at hand i will not go out to find more. Pitch black with a little white head and bubbles (!?) it looks suspicious anyway, but if the fake leather and wood polish smell doesn’t put you off, the taste definitely will. Rotten wood with bits of fish in murky thames water comes to mind... i admit i only bought it because i liked the bottle and now i’m paying for it! Dearly!

Thanks to ghawener. The best mexican beer so far. Pours pitch black, with a nice creamy head. Light bodied, smoky and ashy, but also sour. Very different.

Thin frothy beige head of varying sized bubbles. Light carbonation. Sweet toffee aroma with some roasted malts, caramel and kind of nutty. Color is a very dark brown. Roasty flavor with some ash, hint of bitter coffee and dry malts. Very dry palate and kind of thin body. Some smoke shows up late swallow. Lingering dry and ashy aftertaste. Better than expected but still not very good. Really cool cobalt bottle though.

Bottle, pours dark brown with a think tan head, light aroma of roasted malts. Sour, ashtray flavors, slight sweetness, really not very good at all, More like a Shiner Bock than a porter so that is no bueno. Plus its watery, pass on this one.

Bottle, blue. (RBNAG 07) I wasn’t too optimistic considering it being Mexican, but it was far from bland or bad. There was a dark brown, clear pour, topped by a beige head, making it look quite sexy. The aroma was sweet malty and roasted, with a slightly sour touch, and that went for the flavor as well. Actually, the flavor was not as sweetish as the nose, and it had a wee rubbery touch, but it was quite nice. It had a medium to full body, slightly astringent in the mouth, and finished with a lasting roasted flavor. To sum it up, a pleasant surprise. (071103)

Bottle at home. Dark brown with a fluffy light brown head. Aroma moderate/heavy malty (roasted, burnt, notes of smoke). Flavor moderate bitter. Light body. Thanks Rick Gordon!
