I wish I better understood the negative ratings that this beer has so far been receiving. I found it to be one of the smoothest, most pleasant-tasting beers I have ever had. It feels like drinking silk, the chocolate flavor is bold and strong, the overall impression is one of darkness and sweetness delightfully integrated in a way that I never would have dreamed of. I recommend everyone at least try this; it’s more than deserving.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2006 Great!, Finally a bock beer in Mexico, I like latin Bock Beers, Moza, Caracú and now , Potro.It has a toasted grains flavor and it’s ellow at the top, just like other bock beers with high quality.

This got a few extra points for the coolness of the bottle. Interesting beer. Little aroma, but a noticeable light smokiness. Also present in the flavor. A mexican beer actually worth having.

(Lot 130) This beer was great! The unique blue bottle is one of the coolest I’ve seen. Potro is nothing like any other Mexican beer I’ve drank...almost black in color, beautiful malt flavor with an abundant nose of caramel and chocolate. I wouldn’t believe this came from Mexico unless I saw it poured with my own eyes!

The name of the beer is Cerveza Potpo. I recently found it in Rosarita, Mexico, just south of Tijuana. It is a dark beer with good creamy body and full flavor, coffee and chocolate. Don’t know if it is seasonal. It is 4.7% alcohol by volume. It comes is a blue ligueur shaped bottle, long slender neck with fat round bottom. The best Mexican beer I have tasted.

Robust, savory aroma of roasted meat, light peat, and shallots. Dark mahogany, no head. Immediately noticeable lack of carbonation. Charred oak flavor, alternating astringency and bitterness. Slightly meaty finish. A solid porter with character.

Pours with a dark brown body topped by a thin head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a slight caramel note and a little roastiness. Medium bodied and smooth.
