500ml bottle. Kind of odd amber-orange color. Soda like fast dissipating head. Deep burnt caramel, not very appealing. I get the feeling they make crap one-offs just to sell to the US. Sweet, has some malt depth, but just doesn’t come off as natural to me, sort of a factory feel, thinnish in ways you’d hope it wasn’t. Suppose this one wasn’t that shelf stable. Not that impressive of an offering, but I still enjoy the style, so it works for me on some levels.

500 mL swingtop. Hazy light brown with a thin white head. Banana, clove, malts and honey. Taste is sweet and dry. Lighter body with a light sticky feel.

Bottle. Amber with white head. Sugar malt nose with dark and spice. Strong aroma. Malt, dark fruit elements, full body and malty. Bourbon feel. Nutty, sweet malt with slight yeast. Nice finish but maybe too much malt at the end. Does animate my taste buds.

Pours a cloudy amber-brown with a thick white head. Aroma is molasses, malted grains and a hint of clove. Taste is definitely malty with the grains and molasses; very silky and smooth and the clove is there in the mid. I swear I’m getting some hoppy bitterness in the finish (got another opinion - definitely hops). Overall, a pretty good dopplebock done American style.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2014 Pours a clear amber/orange with a full light tan/yellow head. Grassy wet cardboard aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, buttered biscuits (which is good), but also has a funky vegetal taste consistant with an old or tainted beer. This sample has a freshness date of 06/15, but may have been exposed to prolonged warm temperature and/or light.

Reddish brown. Nose of deep toasted malt and dark fruit. Flavor is mild plum and raisin with toasted, near roasted malt. Carb prickly, almost too much.

Number 4 in our doppelbock blind tasting. Pours a light orange-brown. Very low carbonation, sweet but well balanced. Gentle caramel flavors. Not bad.

500mL flip top; beer #4 in a doppelbock blind tasting.

I guess this was my biggest disappointment of the tasting. When I purchased it I was hoping this would be something tasty but instead I got something that tasted like a stale malt rich lager. There was an off flavor character of vomit on the nose but not the flavor.

Bottle at a Seattle tasting. Part of our blind tasting panel. More orange appearance than others (i.e. doppelbocks), brown note. Crisp. Alcohol, orange malts.
