beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jun 14, 2008 On tap, pours dark brown/copper with a soft white head. Not much clove or sweetness up front, more along the hefe side with heavy banana flavor, heavy wheat, thick body. Very enjoyable beer, but very mild in the dunkle character. DruncanVeasey (2695), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Jun 12, 2008 Bottled, Der Pschorr, Munich. Right, I didn’t want or order this, but I’m glad I did because it’s a beauty. Muddy orange pour heaped with thick pillows of froth. Ravishing snout with banana, pepper, clove, slightly farty malt nuttiness. That’s at least an 8. Palate milky but prickling with spritz. Ripe banana rolled in white pepper and almond. BOTTSF? A swill of clovey mouthwashy spice. Edging towards dunkelweizen perfection. jdp (54), Texas, USA Apr 30, 2008 Draft at the Flying Saucer in San Antonio. Pour is a medium brown with a light white head. Smell is slightly spicy, slight sweet. Taste is smooth malt, light, not too sweet, a bit off burnt malt taste and no speakable hop flavor. Not bad but seemed better when I lived in Germany. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Apr 12, 2008 Called "dark wheat" on the bottle. Pours cloudy "brown" brown. Well behaved pour, 3/4" off-white head. Smells like dark wheat malt, and very bitter hops. I was expecting this one to taste a little overbearing like most dunkelweizens, but was pleasantly surprised when it came up tasting more like a hefeweisebier hell. The flavor is light and refreshing and of good quality wheat malt, slight banana, vanilla, and citrus notes. It’s starts with a lot of carbonation and smooths out as it goes down. Pleasant, clean finish. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 11, 2008 Tap: Cloudy light brown color with a strong malty aroma of sweet alcohol. Lots of sweet flavors abound - candy and cola mainly. Pretty good. KnN (715), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Apr 5, 2008 Has a very typical wheat beer nose; lots of bananas and cloves, but a nice cloudy brown color. Minimal but long lasting head. Good lacing.
Flavor is very much the fruity, banana wheat beer. Thankfully not much of the bubblegum flavor you get with some wheats. Very nice beer. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Apr 4, 2008 Updated: Oct 15, 2008Bottle from Bev4Less. Dark brownish/amber in color. Sizable foamy head. Some floaters. Somewhat sweet spicy aroma. Some banana and clove. Mildly sweet spicy flavor. Fairly yeasty. Roasty malt finish. Pretty tasty. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Apr 1, 2008 (355 ml bottle ("produced on 08/07") from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/westborough/julio’s-liquors/461.htm target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours cloudy brownish amber with a tall biege head. Aroma of banana, brown sugar and clove. Mouthfeel is medium-full and smooth. Flavor is sweetish banana with clove, brown sugar, wheaty malt and a hint of pepper. Nice example of style and an enjoyable beer.
