Papillon (172), Sudbury, Ontario, Canada Mar 1, 2009 Updated: Mar 6, 2009500 mL Bottle. Like any wheat beer it pours a cloudy deep gold with a 3-finger white head that immediately settles to a 1-finger fluffy layer. This beer has an intriguing aroma of grains, banana, pineapple, an innuendo or orange rind, and a very faint innuendo of cloves; actually very delightful. A layer of sediment at the bottom of the bottle tells me this beer is likely bottle-conditioned and not filtered and pasteurized. The taste doesn’t seem to titillate the senses the way the aroma does: grainy-wheaty with an aftertaste of bananas with a hint of pineapple and a slight note of butterscotch in the finish. There is a heavy cloyingness that I find hurts the flavor some. It is a distinct palate that I’ll be the first to say is not the ideal of every beer drinker but for one who likes wheat beer, it could be very likeable. Smooth carbonation. It is the aroma alone that boosts whatever rating here, but I’ve had better-tasting Heffes. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Mar 1, 2009 This beer smells way better than it tastes- smells of flowers, fruits, bananas and caramels. Unfortunately, it tastes of water trying desperately to not be water. Akin to an American Macrobrew. I’m happier with Tucher- it is cheaper and has somewhat more flavor than this.$7 on tap, .5 liter at Abraxas on Miami Beach. jfb (413), Weihenstephan, Germany Feb 24, 2009 (bottle) pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a tall white head. aroma of heavy clove, wheat and a light touch of burnt wood, flavour is the same. medium body with smooth carbonation. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Feb 20, 2009 12 oz bottle purchased from the Beer Run in Chattanooga. Poured a cloudy yellow/orange color with a two finger, fluffy white head. The aroma was citrus, lemons, bananas and clove, with notes of yeast. The flavor was wheaty, with banana and cloves present in the middle and a citrus, orangey finish. This was an excellent Hefe. NJBeerman013 (764), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Feb 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours an orangish amber in color with a pure white, fluffy head. The aroma is extremely sweet and fruity. It has strong hints of banana, pinapple, and lemony citrus. The flavor is lightly spicey, some notes of pepper and corriander with some clove. It has a bready, yeasty quality, a medium light body, and a smooth, sweet, lightly sweet finish. I could definitely drink quite a lot of this. sirPino (855), Zawiercie / Żywiec, Poland Feb 17, 2009 No 686
