jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 11, 2006 Had this at a beer-food pairing event at Rohrbachs. Contrasted against Rohrbach’s own Hefe I thought this one was much more flavorful. Heeping helping of banana in the palate. No need for a lemon with this brew! Nice appearance, too, hazy with a nice white head. konair1 (64), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 11, 2006 Copper/orange color. Has a cloudy appearance, characteristic of wheat beer. The head is nice and thick. Overall a very good German beer. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Jul 10, 2006 0.5L bottle. Orange/amber hazy color... this one had an impressively thick and foamy 1"+ head that lasted for the life of the beer. Perfect amount of carbonation, this beer was nice and refreshing. Flavors weren’t too complex--I thought it was a fairly "light" tasting hefeweizen. I don’t want to say watery, but ...maybe slightly. Easy to drink, not awful... but not exactly "great". chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 5, 2006 Updated: Oct 9, 2006The best wheat beer I’ve had. Great with the lemon slice. Essen House owner distributes kegs of german beer in this Madison WI area and I enjoy this on tap at Laurel Tavern.
Must have sugar I do not taste because this stuff goes down easy and can really hang you over. jujubeast6000 (772), Houston, Texas, USA Jun 27, 2006 500mL bottle: Pours a humungous head, white, somewhat lasting, creamy looking. Yellow-orangish color, very fizzy looking. Very flowery aroma, reminiscent of a triple. Slight flowery taste. Slightly watery taste. Very light taste. lowg (123), Scarborough, Ontario, Canada Jun 26, 2006 500ml brown bottle from LCBO. Cloudy amber with thick head, some lacing. Definitely can taste the banana as well some citrus notes and hints of cloves here and there. Nice bitter finish. This is the only Hefeweiss I’ve tried so far since its one of the few widely available bottled in my area, so I don’t really have a good reference point for the style. In general though, I enjoyed this beer. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 23, 2006 bottle. Aroma: Banana, wheat, lemon, and slight clove. Appearance: Poured a very hazy light orange color. Somewhat surprised at how dark this beer is. Head was huge, white, and mousselike. Great head retention, but almost no lacing. Flavor: Nice lemony sourness upfront, followed by some nice esthers and phenols (mostly bananas and cloves), and then some good bready flavors of wheat. The finish is just bitter enough to clear the tongue and leaves you wanting to drink more. Light to medium bodied. High carbonation but appropriate to the style. Overall: A good weissbier, and a pleasure to drink, but seemed a little flat flavor-wise. gferd (99), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 21, 2006 Citrusy aroma. Nice cloudy honey-coloured wheat beer with beautiful big head that coats the glass as it settles. Some banana flavour present but not much clove. Bitterness appropriate to style. Sparkling effervescent mouthfeel and smooth creamy finish. Not the perfect example of the style but definitely a good example and very drinkable too. Bottle.
