3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
9oz shorty on tap at Yard House. Clear golden color, slight orange hue. Thin off-white head. Couple splotches and bits of lace. Wow, really interesting aroma on this. What’s going on here? Is this what straight barley tastes like? Or is that the Hallertau? Aroma is like cornbread, honey, biscuits, and cookies. Medium-plus body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Kind of crisp. Good longer aftertaste, that holds that interesting biscuity cornbready aroma for a period, so I can contemplate and be perplexed by it. Moderate bitter taste, moderate sweet. A light bit of spiciness to it, I’m thinking that’s from the hallertau. Get some of the pear and cream flavor. Very interesting Heller Bock.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Malty nose of pale malt, apple, pear and trace of banana, nose seems estery and a little dirty (metallic, chalk). Medium-full body, sweet, relatively low carbonation, bite of acid, silt / clay in the finish.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (BB Aug 2014).
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/bread, husks), lightly hoppy (flowers).
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter, slightly husky.
Medium to full body, watery/velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Just a tad husky but otherwise seems clean to me. Mild, straightforward nose (I like the Hallertauer of course, one of my favorite hops, but wish they were brighter/stronger here). Ok balance, though the syrupy sweetness is barely kept in check. A pretty standard, safe rendition.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Another really solid offering from Hacker Pschorr. I expected a darker beer considering it was a bock, but it turned out to be a thicker, stronger version of their Weiss. Not as good though.

Pretty good beer, matches the labels' description, tho not so special as to merit this treatment. Nice color, aroma, taste, body, finish.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Flippy top bottle: Pours a clean deep golden hue with a huge frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has a lovely biscuity and pils malt tone along with herbal grassy hop esters, some light honey malts, faint apple and alcohol notes too. The taste is malty goodness without too much sweetness, the hops bitterness is classic for the genre adding a counterbalance to the malt. Subdued apple like fruitiness midsection. Just a touch of herbal spiciness upon the finish. The mouth feel is moderate in heft, mostly refreshing outside a bit of chalky character upon the finish. A solid brew that hits on most requirements.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a bright and clear light golden with a foamy white head with decent retention and lacing. Aroma of a honeyed biscuit with some sweet and bready scents. Taste has the same slight honey sweetness and breadiness with a light herbal and floral bitterness along with a hint of alcohol noticeable. Finishes with the taste of Pilsner malt and light bitterness. Mouthfeel is somewhat slick with a light body and moderate carbonation. Enjoyable and drinkable. Plenty of flavor for a lager.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 8/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear bright golden color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of honey, cracker, bread, light caramel, pear, apple, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of honey, cracker, biscuit, light caramel, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, light pear/apple, and yeast earthiness. Light amount of earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, cracker, biscuit, light caramel, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and light-moderate yeast ester flavors; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Maibock style. Good balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
