Serving: from tap at Schultzy’s Sausage. Aroma: floral hoppy aroma. Appearance: average-sized, rocky, white, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, medium-amber body. Taste: moderately sweet initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: too sweet for my tastes.

Swingtop from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours orange tinged gold with a white head. Aroma is bready, seems a bit grapey, with some nice earth/spice. Med body or nearly. Flavor is earthy, spicy, toasty bready, with for me a bit of grape. Which makes it very pleasant to me. Not really dry, but balanced enough to make the malt pleasant. I’m likin’ it.

500ml bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma has light cracker and light bready malts. Somewhat metallic, too. Transparent brilliant golden body with a large, strong, frothy head present. Beautiful. Starts with a fairly sweet, chewy, Graham cracker maltiness. Medium sweetness late. Super clean throughout. Light toastiness, too.

Swing-top. Pours a pale, bright gold. Very good clarity, which is super important to me. Small to medium white head. Fades rather quickly, leaving just a bit of lacing. Aroma has some rich pilsner malt sweetness, mild grassy hops and some mineral character. Little bit of apple cider. Pears, very light lemons, mild floral note. It’s a clean bock with a bit more sweetness than appley sweetness than expected. The taste has more of the same sweet pilsner malt flavor with that sweet apple note. It finishes drier than I would have guessed based on the aroma. Simple sugar. Mild grass hops, again. Mild bitterness in the finish, which could stand to be a bit cleaner. Sweet and simple breadiness. Relatively low carbonation. Round mouthfeel, almost a bit much given the lack of complexity. Fun to see a one-off from Paulaner in the US, but it’s still just a decent bock. I can’t complain. I’d love to see more German specials around.

4oz taster at Westover Beer Garden. Gold with foamy white head. Grassy, with grains and malt. Grassiness lends a somewhat bitter and offputting nature.

Bottle: The aroma has moderate grassy and straw notes with light dusty notes, honey, and apple. It pours a transparent gold with a three finger creamy white head that has good retention and leaves behind a lot of soapy webbing. The flavor starts with a quick dose of honey, bread, and a touch of apple. The finish has light-moderate grass, straw, and light dusty notes. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.

On tap at Red Rock. The pour is not what I was expecting for a bock at all! It's a nice golden color with a hint of amber and a nice white head with minimal lace. The aroma is surprisingly fruity. There is a good light crispness there and a nice malt profile. The flavor is just as the aroma smells. There is a distinct pilsner-ish character to it, but it's quite well received. The mouth feel is a little light, but the carbonation helps it stay nice and crisp. There is a short fruity aftertaste and this thing is just pretty good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear brilliant slightly darker golden under a generous foamy white head. Malty cereal nose with a grassy hop nose that transports me to a German hilltop. The flavor is a bit too "old" and grainy with toast and hay and loads of lagered cracker malt. Old world grassy earthy bitterness throughout.

9oz shorty on tap at Yard House. Clear golden color, slight orange hue. Thin off-white head. Couple splotches and bits of lace. Wow, really interesting aroma on this. What’s going on here? Is this what straight barley tastes like? Or is that the Hallertau? Aroma is like cornbread, honey, biscuits, and cookies. Medium-plus body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Kind of crisp. Good longer aftertaste, that holds that interesting biscuity cornbready aroma for a period, so I can contemplate and be perplexed by it. Moderate bitter taste, moderate sweet. A light bit of spiciness to it, I’m thinking that’s from the hallertau. Get some of the pear and cream flavor. Very interesting Heller Bock.

Bottle. Malty nose of pale malt, apple, pear and trace of banana, nose seems estery and a little dirty (metallic, chalk). Medium-full body, sweet, relatively low carbonation, bite of acid, silt / clay in the finish.

Bottle (BB Aug 2014). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/bread, husks), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium to full body, watery/velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Just a tad husky but otherwise seems clean to me. Mild, straightforward nose (I like the Hallertauer of course, one of my favorite hops, but wish they were brighter/stronger here). Ok balance, though the syrupy sweetness is barely kept in check. A pretty standard, safe rendition.
