MoritzF (4859), Bochum, Germany Sep 26, 2006 (swing top bottle) Clear, amber colour with a mid-sized, slowly lacing, slightly off-white foamy head. Moderately sweet malty, toasted bread aroma with faint hints of herbal hops. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to light body with a crispy carbonation. Toasted malty taste, bready with light herbal notes, rather dry, moderately bitter and toasty finish with hints of liquorice. Well-balanced and easy-going session-Märzen. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 26, 2006 [Draught at Delirium Café, Göteborg, Sweden]
Deep red-amber colour with good head. Big caramelly, concentrated, clean aroma. Long boil feel here. Very malty feel to it. Bit candy-ish in flavour, with toffee and milk chocolate. Not the regular Märzen-prickly feeling but tasty!
Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2006 Very nice ruby body with a thick ivory head. Enjoyed at Capital Ale House’s Oktoberfest.. Lightly fruity with some nice malt and hop backbone. Very enjoyable and drinkable in large quantities. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Sep 23, 2006 Sweet welcoming of caramel malt and sugar found in the aroma. Color is a crystal clear see through orange and fizzy film on top. Marzen is carbonated well enough and has a easy going palate that makes this an very quaffable beer. Some signs of sweetness in the flavor but overall the flavor is subdued and subtle. diabel (1366), Aarschot, Belgium Sep 23, 2006 Bottle at LCRBM 2, Kulminator, Antwerp, Belgium Clear, orange to amber body. Aroma of hops, soap, not very interesting and rather bad. Moderately bitter flavour. Quite soapy. Didn’t like this at all. Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Sep 23, 2006 On tap at Mahars. Best beer of the night. Poured a great ruby red, with a beautiful crowning white head. Aroma is very spicy and sweet. Flavor was sweet, and very spicy, tasted like a good octoberfest should. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2006 um, pretty much just looks like a clear amber ale. smells very much like pistachios and nuts, and strong malts. bock-like as well. getting a ton of apple too. no flavor in the front end, but then there’s plenty. i’d say flavor is malt dominated, but it’s not particularly strong. a bit empty :-/ the aroma is definitely the most distinctive thing about this. i’d rather have a retro encabulator hair-old (134), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 18, 2006 ’06 batch.Sweet roasted malt taste.
Not much hops to balance the flavour.
I pick up this brew every year, and
every year it is more watery.30%
of all beer brewed in Munich is consumed at the annual Octoberfest.
