Clear dark gold to orange color with very thin white head. Strong malt aroma. Mostly lightly roasted or Vienna type malts. There is also a subtle hint of yeast too. The aroma is truly mouth watering. Tasty malty flavor. Nice, but not too sweet, grain malt flavor followed by some sweeter malts. At the same time the sweet malts hit some bitter hop flavor enters the picture to reign in the sweetness. Excellent October-fest beer. Most in this style end up being too sweet for my tastes. But not this one. eaglefan538 (2358), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2006 This one didn’t do much for me within the style. Poured with a better head than some of the others of its class and with the normal amber-orange color. The aroma was somewhat caramel-like and malty. The flavor featured caramel malts, low roastedness (I would have liked more), even some grassiness (which I’m not a fan of). For an original German, not overly impressive. Too sweet and nothing to help balance it out. I’d drink it again, but I’d certainly choose a few others over this one, which is surprising #3 on the site (within style) as of today. Aromas of stewed veggies and sweet malts spew forward. Medum nectar w/ mellow residual effers. The texture is thin and soft. Big fruity malts, w/ said stewed veggies and herbs. The finish is bttered gently and leaves a lingering malty sweetness to ponder. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

The aroma was sweet and malty and resembled a dopplebock. Flavor was sweet malts, carmel, bread, and some hops and yeast. Kind of had a barleywine taste to it. Finish was fairly spicey with a little kick to it. ragesaq (53), Arizona, USA
