HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2004 Updated: Aug 17, 2005Dark golden color with fairly high carbonation. Aroma is toasty and malty. Light and crisp flavor with a toasted, nutty malt flavor. Easy to drink. After re-rating, there is a lot of sweet malty flavor in this one that many are lacking. It is turning into a favorite. iwantalambic (1385), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 22, 2004 12 oz bottle: spicy hop aromatics, with honey, caramel and floral notes. Interesting fruity flavour, with nuts, candied malts and figs. The palate is even: smooth with some nice carbonation, and finishes with enough flavour to keep me coming back. Fair and tasty. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA Sep 22, 2004 In my opinion this is the best marzen made. It has the nicest balance of malt and hops going. The beer is incredibly drinkable. The malt aroma is straight from the brew kettle. Caramel throughout. I think this is a classic and have found no American micro that can touch it, though several Germans come close. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Sep 20, 2004 Copper color with a good size off white head. Sweet malt aroma with hints of
yeast. Slightly sweet malt flavor with a
touch of caramel. A little light on the palate, but a very drinkable beer. Metalhead (570), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2004 Poured an orangey color with a mild 1 finger head. Mild sweet malt and very subtle caramel in nose. Flavor was a somewhat watery version of aroma. Nothing outstanding but a pretty good session beer. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Sep 14, 2004 12 oz. brown, longneck bottle. Freshness date of 03.05 on lower right front label. Poured out a beautiful amber color, with a minimal orangish copper head to it. Aromas right away were of fresh malts, yeasty bread, slight biscuit notes, and a earthy hoppiness to it.
Tastes are of faint fruitiness, malts, yeast, and a slight hops bite at the end. Medium mouthfeel, doesn’t coat your tongue like some other beers. Finishes crisp and dry, with a lingering maltiness to it.
A decent Octoberfest if ever there was one. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Sep 14, 2004 I found this very enjoyable. Nice reddish color, nice subtle honey aroma. A little thin on the mouth as others have noted, but it seems to help it go down easier, as if it were meant to be consumed in large quantities at some kind of festival. Hm. Also a pleasant reminder that Fall is on its way shrubber85 (2833), Wallhalben, Germany Sep 11, 2004 Bottle - sweet malt aroma - slight honey. Great red caramel color. Sweet malt flavor with only a bit of bitterness to finish. A nicely balanced beer.
