Tried this around that time. Malty and a bit corny with roasty hints and a dash of hops.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. Appearance: Nice deep amber color with a good sized, foamy, white head. Decent head retention. Aroma: Caramel malt, light biscuit notes, a bit of dustiness, and a wee bit of grassy hops. Taste: Nice caramel malt sweetness up front, some grain notes, and a pleasant mix of biscuit and light hop bitterness. A good showcase for the malt. Palate: Medium, slightly prickly carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium, slightly bitter finish. Overall: Simple and well done. A good example of the style. Rebuy: Perhaps. You certainly won’t be disappointed by this.

12fl oz bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Amber-brown with one finger off-white head. Aroma is oakey with notes of dark fruit. Flavor is basically the same. Medium carbonation. Lightly bitter finish. Good brew.

This one poured a frothy tan, two-fingered head along with a clear, dark amber body. The aroma was "interesting"; I could detect oranges, but little else. The taste was just "different", hard to describe, but the longer it sat in the glass, the more the spices emereged and the better it tasted. Mouthfeel was a bit thin, but the aftertaste was quite acceptable. All in all, enjoyable and worthy of a second helping.

Appearance: Swing-top bottle, medium brown. Good amount of off-white head. Aroma: Malt and some fruit. Slightly metallic. Taste: Lots of malt, nice hops. Some caramel. Nothing special. Info: 500ml bottle, 29/6-2009

Location: 12 oz bottle I believe I purchased it at Norm’s fall ’08

Overall Impression: Pretty standard fest beer, enjoyed it. I like a good German fest beer, don’t get me wrong, but they are all basically around the same score wise, not a style with a huge variance. Not a bad score range, just not special beers.

The Darkest Oktoberfest I have yet to drink, this guy has no smell and the flavor is a wonderful full-bodies malty excursion. You could imagine that you just ate a mouthful of wheatgerm or the like when gulping this. Really good. $6.50 a pint at The Abbey Miami Beach
