A marvelous amber marzen with plenty of fantastic aromas coming out of the glass (or in my case, the plastic cup). A malty mouthfeel with hints of chocolate. A real winner! Tons o’ malty goodness here. My favorite marzen/okto, hands down! DuffMan (2786), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 10, 2002 Loved the copper color and creamy head - made my mouth yearn for the first sip. And I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Somewhat fruity aroma, with sweet, rich, and complex malt flavors exuding throughout your mouth. One of the tastiest Oktoberfests I can recall. It’s tantalizing. And the zingy flavors just reeled me in... and I swallowed the hook further. maniac (2774), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2009 Fliptop from Arden Wines. Pours brilliant copper with a receding billow of suds. Beeswax, leather, oily garden hop aroma with some cake-like sweetness and almond. Soapy pinecone hop, chewed pencil, lingering bread and honey, lick of Nutella. CHURCH END. Supped this with some greasy late night nibbles, which really didn’t work and killed the carbonation and flavour to some extent. A shame because it’s a fine and distinctive Oktoberfest with a richer, breadier malt profile than most. Filtered, bottled or from the wood, HP are quality. michael-pollack (2761), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 25, 2008 12oz. Bottle: Malts, dough, bitter hops, pretzel, bread, grains, and caramel. Poured amber in color with a small, tan head that disappeared quickly. Clear. Not sparkling. Light to medium sweet, lightly bitter flavor. Tastes of malts, dough, pretzel, salt, bitter hops, cardboard, and a hint of caramel. Light to medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malty, salty, finish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2002 I had tried a few other Bavarian Style Octoberfests this year (Wurzburger, Becks, Spaten, Paulaner) and expected this to be like those - yellow, crisp, with a bit more malt than the regular beers. This was, to me, a pleasant surprise. Deep amber color, caramel sweetness, and a full bodied. I liked this one. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 6, 2002 I have to join the ranks of the few who thought this a disappointment. The spurt of maltiness, accompanied by a tinge of metallic bitterness and palate-jarring acidity, doesn’t add much to an otherwise plain-jane lager aroma. Pours a nice head (over a strange color) but that goes quickly and leaves a slightly limp body. Not a beer to which I would return soon.
