Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest pours to a beautiful, deep amber color with a thick and creamy white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic, it is just loaded with toasty/nutty malt aroma. The palate is as wonderful with lots of big, hearty, nutty/toasty malt flavors on a clean and round body. HP Ofest finishes with more of those fantastic nutty/toasty malt flavors, and ends with a touch of dry herbal bitterness to round out those great malt flavors. Perfection. It is hard to improve on a tried and true orignal marzen/Oktoberfestbier, and it is why I love the imported German examples so much. Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest just might be the bench mark example of what marzen, as a style, is all about. This beer is the perfect match with spit roasted pork, BBQ, steaks, stews, or any hearty Fall/Winter dish.

This is a beer that is much better on tap than out of the bottle. These ratings reflect the tap version, which outshines Paulaner, Spaten, and the rest by a good margin.

Alongside Spaten Optimator, this is the 2nd best beer i have ever tasted. I’ve only had it on tap, but i’m sure it’s very good in the bottle, as well. Malty, sweet, smooth, Bavarian goodness! Highly recommended,

This brewery can do no wrong. A marvelous amber marzen with plenty of fantastic aromas coming out of the glass (or in my case, the plastic cup). A malty mouthfeel with hints of chocolate. A real winner! Tons o’ malty goodness here. My favorite marzen/okto, hands down!

carmely hoppy balanced, nothing impressive but nothing bad, straight-forward.

(rerate)
Appearance is amber with a thin head, medium body, and medium carbonation.
Flavor is full of toffee and caramel. There is a definite note of caramelization, like is typical from decoction mashing, in which grains are pulled from the mash and simmered over high heat before being stirred back in. Yeast and alcohol esters are moderate. Hop flavor, hop bitterness, and minerality are all very muted.
Overall, this beer’s focus is all about caramelized malt, which is my favorite aspect of traditional Oktoberfest beers.

Toffee/caramel/malt, and not much else...which is a good thing IMHO for a Marzen. Orange color with thick, fluffy head from a bottle.
