Cask as Broughton Street Ale at Cask and Barrel, Edinburgh. Very malty, sweet beer. Hop bitterness on the tongue, a bit harsh. Not too balanced, not too accomplished.

@ Raven, Bath. Bright amber-brown. Loose head. Looks great. Chocolate and toast aroma is actually quite appetizing. Chocolatey palate, some sweetness and good malt complexity.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2010 Cask @ Raven, Bath (coastal beer fest). Ruby color is deep. Scant lace. Toasted raisin bread aromas. Also worty. Is sweet and slightly sticky. Smells like it has well-developed malts but doesn’t deliver the goods. Some breadiness does come out but in general the flavors fall flat.

As Broughton Street Domestic Ale, at Barloney in Edinburgh. Is Red, clear, with stable head. Aroma of Asian pear, purple plum, sweet with blonde cereal and wort. Soft palate. Blonde wood and is toasty but boring. 6-3-6-3-12 = 3.0

This gladiator would not last long in the arena because he is weak. This dark amber brew has a slightly sweet and malty aroma and flavor, but it is also pretty watery. I think he could use a little more time back at the training camp.

Cask conditioned at The New Wheatsheaf, Borough. Copper with white head. Soft and slightly chalky session type bitter, a fruity malty body with just a hint of drying hop. Gets crisp in the close, reasonable.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 21/10/09. Dark amber in colour with a slight, off-white head. Fruity malt and caramel aroma. Flavour was sweet and malty with some red fruit and lightly bitter finish. Uninspiring.

Cask at the Cambridge Blue, Cambridge. Reddish chestnut with an off-white head; aroma of autumn fruit and malt; thin in the mouth, but fruity with some carmael malt; slightly sour fruity finish with a hint of chocolate.
