3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 imdownthepub (7491) - Banbury, - NOV 24, 2011
Bottle conditioned, 500ml, from The George & Abbotsford Hotel Bottle Shop, Melrose, Borders. Black with ruby hue and light brown head. Initially good fruity, dark roasted malts, a hint of tannin with a light plum note. The beer continues to develop throughout the glass, becoming richer on the palate if anything. Good depth and a fine beer indeed.

Bottle from Fenwick, Newcastle.
Appearance - Black, ruby edges, thick tan head, reasonable lacing.
Aroma - Roasted malt...burnt notes..earthy notes...bit of yeast...slight savoury
Taste - Roasted malt..bit of burnt toast...chocolate..light coffee..touch of wood...some earth...well balanced.
Palate - Soft carb, silky smooth and creamy, medium body. Finish of roasted malt...bit of cocoa powder...some lingering roast then clears well.
Overall - Well made, flavoursome, easy drinking porter (for 5.2%). This is actually a bit better than when I had it cask in Newcastle over a month ago.
