COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Dark, rich and full-bodied slightly roasted with a malty palate ending with a pleasant bitterness. A new brew for this old favourite.

Cask @ The Golden Rule, Edinburgh. Sour vegetable malt aroma. Medium brown colour, reasonable head. Flowery vegetable malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. To be fair barmaid said it was about to go off so it might be better than this.

Cask conditioned at The Olde Ship, Seahouses, Northumberland. Brown to tawny with a white head. Initially quite thinnish but then a lightly roasted barley note shows through with a hint of sour fruit and vegetable. Becoming rich in the close, not bad.

Cask @ Cumberland. Red-auburn. Scant lacing. Is a lovely color. Malty aroma has dense sweet bread plus pepper. Palate is a bit sticky. Dull but malty, dry with stale kitchen herbs. Is dull but drinkable.

Copper-amber. Nice toasted, caramelized sugars on the nose. Palate is similar, but lighter and more metallic. Decent balance.

Gravity dispensed from cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge (August Beer Festival). Flat chestnut brown appearance; malty aroma; smooth bittery, roasted malt flavour; gently bitter finish. Rather plain and ordinary.

Cask handpull, The Red Lion (?)Alnmouth, Northumberland. Deep russet snowy with a nitro collar. Hint of sultana aroma, very Everards soft malty sultana character. Bit vinous and buttery. Pleasant mellow hop and total stillness. Won me over a bit.

On gravity at Swindon BF 30/10/08. Deepish amber in colour with a slight yet lacy off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops with a touch of caramel. Sweet flavours of toffee and red fruit, with plenty more floral hops and a decent bitter finish. Good.

On draught: Amber coloured, lacing off-white head, fruits and molasses in the nose, underpinned by floral hops; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied; short fruity-bitter finish. A good one..........
