[Cask from The Three Judges] Dark brown with reddy tinges, small head. Nose of caramel, red fruit, wet leather, slightly earthy notes. Medium body, sweet, malty finish.

First tasted this in the Ship Inn, Holy Isle in June 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear dark red copper in colour with a thin white head. Malty aroma with a sweet redcurrant note. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt base gives a strong maltloaf flavour with strong fruit notes of raisins, figs and dark plum. Slight peppery note to the hop resins in the dry aftertaste. Strong vinous finish with dry tannin notes. A cracking traditional old ale, perfect pint, perfect setting.

Aroma is very sweet biscuit malts and toffee. Taste is similarly seriously malt sweetness.
