tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 29, 2011
First tasted this in the Boswell Hotel, Glasgow in January 1993. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear ruby red in colour with a thick creamy off white head. Strong sweet aroma of butterscotch. Rich creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts deliver a rich, moist maltloaf laced with soft highland toffee. Very little hops detected in the short aftertaste but malt dominates the finish with silky smooth caramel. A cracking session ESB and deadly drinkable. Superb.
