3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, - JUL 10, 2011
My Bottom Line :
Citrusy tropical fruit grow through this Double IPA’s silky, plush mouthfeel until alcohol splashes the resinous bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sticky head of foam covers the cloudy orange.
-The plastic cork was nearly impossible to get out...
-The citrus fruit character is prominent, but not as bright as in their wonderful Citra Ale (the 5.1% version).
-The finish is also redolent of Eau de Cologne.
-The malts create a pleasant mouthfeel, but do not contribute much to the flavor profile.
-The nose could be better expressed for the style; there are dusty, yeasty notes which don’t jive with the Citra.
-Orange rinds seem to be coated in white sugar at times.
-This remains a decent intro to the style for Germans who haven’t had many (or any), but it is too unpolished to be very successful for now.
Bottle. Thx Alex!

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2012 2012-05-31, bottle from the brewery, plastic cork, purchased Oct 2011, 7-4-8-4-15=38 Hazy golden to light amber color. The aroma is fading away, with light vanilla and fruit jam. The flavor is also mellowing, with sweetish malt and jab, apricots, a touch of citrus; correct bitterness. A good beer, but now losing power.
2011-09-16, bottle from the brewery, plastic cork, purchased June 2011, 8-4-8-4-16=40 Hazy, or cloudy, light amber color, with medium sized creamy head. Very nice, deep yet delicate hop aroma, like a lemon tart, some vanilla. Round and strong body; sweetish malt flavor, less German and crispy than the Amarillo Strong Ale (but still with a background of that crispness), also a bit sweeter; strong hopping, giving the right amount of bitterness and very nice fruity character, tropical fruits; pleasant alcohol warmth, well blended together. Less emotional than the Amarillo Strong Ale, but excellent as well.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 humlelala (400) - DENMARK - DEC 26, 2011
(75 cl bottle from Wein Kultur Bier Shop, Moabit) Pours a hazy amber with little, off-white head and lace. Aroma is a bit muddy with citrus, yeasty and malty notes. Full-bodied, softly carbonated with a slightly bitter finish. Taste is a bit unbalanced, yeasty, mildly bitter with fruity notes. For 20€ this beer was a bit of a letdown.

Bottle looks simple but really good. Not easy to open. Beer in the glass deep golden, small head. Wonderful sweet-hoppy aroma. Starts quite mild, more and more hoppy dry with a sweet touch. Fine fruity like lemon. Finish woody and bitter for a moment, well balanced. Great beer!

Deep golden, hazy, big - stable - off-white head, moderate to solid citrussy-sweaty nose; pretty sweet flavour, but bitter - as expected - too, a bit sticky, full bodied; citric-hoppy and quite sweet finish. A tad too sweet, otherwise quite well made.......
