Big citrus nose, light grapefruit with tropical notes, quite juicy. Light yellow body with a touch of golden and a creamy white head. Taste is barely bitter and a little bland, citrus fruit rind and a touch of chalk, but otherwise straight-ahead malt. Thin, clean medium body, smooth but ultimately a disappointment.

Geruch Zitrus, Geranienblüten. Zitrusartiger Start. Mitte würzig, malzig, Grapefruitnote. Abgangs bitter, würzige Elemente, malzig. Gutes Bier.

The head is ok, the body orange and cloudy. It smells fruity, citrus, mandarine, refreshing. The taste is fruity, mandarine, refreshing, a little bit bitter. The aftertaste is a bit dry. 11/12/11/11/12/12

33cl bottles from Bierpost. Brewed 2012, BB 12/2013 - This to me is Hopfenstopfers secret stand-out beer, unfairly categorised and judged as a pilsner, while actually brewed with 7 types of malt and homegrown German hops as a kind of bottom-fermenting South German ale.
Mouthfeel and taste are very satisfying on account of layered biscuit malts, almost chewy and rich, reminding me of the malt profile of UK Pale ales like Samuel Smith Pale Ale and even the caramalt+hopforward profile of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.
Very generously hopped with herbal, peppery and assertive EU hops (Saphir and Taurus?), interplaying harmoniously and providing a satisfying round taste profile in accord with the rich malt back. Unique in the German brewing landscape, maybe save Düsseldorf, and worth seeking out.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are rich hops, flowers, malt, grass and pine. Nice long bitter finish.
