COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The special light-stable hop extract used in this beer allows it to be packed in clear glass bottles. The unique flavour is due to the Ice Brewing technique which produces a smoother, purer and more refreshing beer.

Pale golden, clear, medium head. I wouldn’t go so far as calling this "foul", but it is pretty boring. Sweet malt is really all you get for flavour (the same as all corn-adjunct, over-processed pale lagers on the market). I wouldn’t choose to drink it again if an alternative were available, but I wouldn’t turn it down if the beerfridge was empty on a Friday night. This is my standard review for all "two-star-or-less" piss.

In the bottle at Jackson’s on George Street. What’s this light-stable hop extract? Does that mean artificial hops? This is a thin beer for an "ice" beer. Isn’t the point to concentrate ethanol in a beer such as this? The ridiculous excise taxes on beer in Australia tend to prohibit the commercial production of high gravity beers on a big scale. This might explain such a low ABV for this beer. Adjunct aroma and harsh palate. Not good.

Clear bottle with skunky aroma. Pours with a fluffy white head which lasts. Big streaming carbonation. Initial taste is a corn flavor with a bit of apple cider. Not entirely awful but fairly close.

345ml bottle. About what I expected. Honey gold in colour with a thin modest loose white foam head. Aroma of grass and straw with a basic flavour that is dull and boring.

WHAT HAPPENED, this beer was barely drinkable ten years ago and now it’s, albeit still barely drinkable, weaker in alcohol. Without malt and hops that could only mean watered down. As a younger lad this was our poison, a 5.2% monster that went down with ease as long as it was close to frozen. It has since changed from 5.2, to 4.6, to 4.2, and now weighs in at a miserly 4.0%. What is Lion Nathan doing weakening an already pitiful Dry lager!?! Poured into a tallboy glass, clear medium gold body with big ’frumpy’ bubbles erupting to a short soapy and artificial looking white head. Raspy mineral and sour lemon nose, quite clean yet with an odd hint of castor oil. Sprightly and quite lively in the mouth, it had the overall feel of tonic water with only a little cardboard and lemon pulp to save it from being tasteless. Very light in body, very clean and remained crisp for the length, it had a little note of oxidisation that lingered between mouthfuls, so I guess it needs to be downed in quick succession. I drank it as a kid, to get drunk like the rest, but now it cannot even serve that purpose. Nothing disagreeable, it’s just not beer, really!!! (34.5cL bottle, BBE 01/06)

Another watery, thin bodied Aussie lager with use of adjuncts and no flavour at all.
