2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 PoMo (6) - AUSTRALIA - OCT 24, 2006 does not count
Paler pee yellow than Tooheys Extra Dry. Rocky, thick but short-lived head. Lacing lasted halfway the glass. Faint (very very faint) Saaz hop aroma. No malt aroma. Faint Saaz flavour, trace of citrus. Very dry. Very thin. Hint of malt. High carbonation. Another beer flavoured water, slightly more beery than TED, with detectable amounts of malt and hops. Perfect for those who like beer flavoured mineral water.

Large initial head, quickly dissapears to nothing. Very sweet pineapple (?) aroma despite the ’low carbohydrates’. Why bother going from 3g sugar a serve to 1g for such a reduction in body, it’s somehow thinner than water.
Definitely dry, like a newspaper.

Ahahaha, I’ve been waiting to try this one for reasons unknown. Was it the satisfying allure of the ridiculous labelling that beats the Pure blonde at it’s own game, or the pithy ’SuperDry’ name as opposed to the feebler ’Extra Dry’ of Toohey’s fame. Its atleast packaged in brown bottles, but claims of no preservatives and additives would be hard to swallow, would it be just like this beer? Let’s find out:- Exotic aroma of ’nothing at all’ greets the nostrils from the bottle. Head was impressive, albeit certainly artificial. Big, loose, cloud of white rose a good half-inch from the stein aided by the massive flurry of carbonation. Body a thinly looking, palest gold. There is a little ’Play-doh™’ in the nose now, and I see a light showing of what Highlandlad describes as tropical fruit icy poles, the cheap variety atleast. Oooh, hold on... the first mouthful had flavour, unexpected. It is watery to be polite, sourdough and filing paper make up most of the palate. Light zingy flavour of castor sugar and white bread upfront. It tickles the tip of the tongue, I suppose to block the connoisseur from truly judging the taste. Tonic water swallow without the carbonation, in fact this is very lightly carbonated which results in it muddying up the palate instead of cleaning it. Hops..., anyone???? Disappears into an appreciably chemical swallow with little to no flavour in the aftertaste. I won’t use woeful to describe it, maybe questionable, sad, or pitiful marketing angle playing at Australia’s obsession with eliminating all things high in carbs. But at the expense of flavour, I’d rather be overweight and jolly than thin and reduced to drinking this. That’s another beer over and out the way. A fad we need desperately to erase. Don’t understand the whole dry beer phenomenon or why anyone would choose a low carb beer, therefore can’t find much pleasure in this. The light aroma has some pineapple, tropical fruit ice-poles, corn and an indistinct mineral quality. Plus a shake of a wet dog’s tail, but overall, nothing too offensive. It’s a lot less pleasant in the mouth. It has that now-you-taste-it-now-you-don’t quality that seems inevitable with low carb beers. There’s some taste at the front of the tongue, then it vanishes until you swallow. This has apple juice, soda water, a splash of sauvignon blanc and the very dry finish that you would expect with the style. No idea why anyone would drink this rather than a standard lager. (330ml bottle from Liquor on Parade. Best before 12/6/07)

Not nearly as bad as I expected to be honest. Tis very, very dry and on a warm evening it went down OK. perhaps a little too bitter and metallic for my taste. Not a worldbeater by any means (Hahn beers are ordinary IMO), but could quite easily knock a few of these back at another time. Only way to drink these are ice cold straight from the bottle though. Wouldn’t even bother trying to pour into a glass.

I must have purchased a different beer. This is one of the worst beers I have ever tasted. Pallid, pathetic piss colour, no discernible head, corny and limp in the nose and entirely poor in mouthfeel, texture and flavour. An absolutely uninspiring beer from a bunch of wanker brewers who think they can provide variety to the drinking public but only succeed in making cynics like me more so. No need to touch the rating figures at all.

Nice drop indeed. good finish. very good flavour with the Saaz hops. Extremely impressive for a low Carbohydrate Beer

Fairly good, clear golden coloured body with an average white head. Saaz hops on the nose. Fairly bland taste, bit like a pilsener dumbed down a bit, easy to drink cos there is not a great deal to it.
