Awful, dirty, rancid rubbish. So this is a red ale is it? Well, it tastes very much like Hahn Premium to me, but even dirtier.

Smokey malt hop aroma. Clear red amber colour with poor head and lacing. Burnt malt flavour with ashtray aftertaste. Flat palate.

In the bottle from a bottle shop in Lennox Head Beach. Pours a rich amber with an off-white head. Aroma of toasted caramel. Perfume hops also can be detected. Flavor is mildly roasted, but lacks a rich enough malt palate to be a true Vienna style. Long lingering hop bitter bite at the end.

Bottle: Clear amber with a foamy lasting head. Pretty classic clean mega-lager aroma - not much! Maybe some malts, and maybe some metallic, floral hops?? Cardboardy malts greet the tongue and dominate thereafter, occassionally allowing some pleasant biscuity and floral notes to make appearances. A touch too much lingering metallic bitterness apoils the end. Not good, but then, not really bad either.

Bottle. I haven’t tried a "Vienna" before so I have nothing to compare it against. Redish brwon colours, with floral hop aromas. I sound just like the label. Little head, small bubbles, light toasty tastes. Sweet also with a nice body. I like it.

Reddish colour, smooth finish. Decent quaffing beer - quite a bit better than the mainstream beers on offer in Australia, but nothing spectacular.

reddy brown in colour : Check Hop aroma : Check Malty/crisp hop bitterness: Check Lion (Chuck) is branching out with new flaours, only slightly better than Hahn Premium

Golden orange color, sparkling. Frothy off-white head. Aroma is soft but indeed toasted, with hints of cereal, caramel, toffee, fruit and smoothly hoppy. Taste is sweet, malty. Light to medium bodied. Nice texture. Slightly bitter aftertaste and sticky finish.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2006 Pours a clear and sparkling orange color with a medium, cream colored head that lasts a little and leaves a fair lacing. Aroma is hoppy, very nice with notes of herbs, orange citrus and nuts. A bit of metallic hints and a malty cerally touch. Good and Pilsener-like. Flavor is pretty lagerish but good with a light and nice bitterness and soft less evident sweetness. There’s some astringent tartness in the mouthfeel. Damn green bottles! Not that light for a lager. Highly carbonated and simple with a flat finish. Decent Vienna.

Many thanks to <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/View-User-7208.htm> for this one.

This is a pretty competent go at a non mainstream beer in Australia. It hits the aim spot on, nice reddish colour and restrained maltiness that finishes off with some pleasent bittereness. This is not too sweet or gassy which means it would be a good session beer too (which is normally in the front of mind of all commercial aussie breweries). Only negative would be a slight metallic taste. This just continues to show that Lion Nathan are much better at developing new lines than their main rival CUB.
