Blue Dot pours out of the bottle a dense, murky off pale which looks quite disgusting. Aroma and taste are very vibrant and fresh while the medium bodied mouthfeel is a bit milky, really interesting. Sweet pilsner malts shine through beautifully showcasing sweet honey and fresh white bread. Citrus hops galore and a little piney bitter finish with a hint of that rye. This is sure one unfiltered, unrefined IPA but a good one at that setting it self apart in an IPA flooded market.

Bomber received in trade. Thank you StefanSD! Spring 2014 ”vintage”. Pours very hazy deep yellow with a rather thin frothy white head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is very fruity with crackers, pink grapefruit juice, lychee, ripe gooseberries, freshly cut grass, pine needles, cape gooseberries, black currant leaves, resinous wood, lemon balm, dill, orange zest and mango. Taste is bitter and fruity with crackers, moist grass, ripe gooseberries, dew-covered black currant leaves, lychee, pine needles, grapefruit rinds, orange zest, lemon zest, resinous wood and hints of dried juniper berries and alcohol. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny astringent, dry, very tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter and fruity with crackers, moist grass, gooseberries, grapefruit rinds, cape gooseberries, lychee, pineapple, mango, resinous wood, orange zest and lemon zest. Very different from the other HotD beers I’ve tried so far but this brewery keeps on impressing and shows they know how a solid IIPA should taste too.

Felt like I had to rate this due to my love for space and, in particular, the Sagan quote this beer’s name references. Got it at the brewery to go. Almost plays like a regular IPA but ultimately nothing too special. Didn’t explode all over me like previous HotDs (it’s been a few years since my last, perhaps their technique has changed). Still opaque from the bottle conditioning which is nice since I don’t see that as much anymore. Somewhat lemony and refreshing aroma. Solid body. A little thin on the flavor for a DIPA I was suprised to see that was the style. Your usual west coast hop flavor dominates, not too bitter though. I like a little more fruit/dimension in my DIPA.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours hazy orange with a white head. The aroma has tropical fruits, orange, toasted malt and some dankness. It has a medium rich body with light huskiness and soft carbonation. The flavor has rich caramel malt, pineapple, mango and dankness. The finish has zesty citrus. Nice IPA.

The label says "intense northwest hop varieties", but I don’t find them intense. What I do find is a very is a good DIPA with mild bitterness, nice complexity, and a spicy finish. Head is thin but the aroma doesn’t die with the foam. Nice body and mouthfeel. Very good.

Bottle from Special Brews. Pours a hazy golden/tan color with a very small white head on it. Nose is pleasantly hoppy, with some earthy citrus elements and just a bit of resin coming through. Taste is pleasantly bitter, and seems like it would be a great beer after an orgasm. Really nice drink.

Draught @ Hair of the Dog, Portland, OR

Pours dark orange with a smooth head. Aroma of ripe fruits, grassy hops, malts and syrup. Taste is sweet, malty and really hoppy with some ripe fruitness and grass. Finish is hoppy, sweet and malty. Pretty good.

Hair of the Dog 3 dot DIPA in a 22 oz bomber. Hazy pale light amber; like unfiltered apple cider. Good, lasting white head. Mild for style; drinks Iike an unfiltered IPA. Not clean. Mainly herbal hops. Some bready malts too.

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy yellow orange with a medium white creamy head that goes to a thin film and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet grapefruit and dank resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet fruity malts with lots of dank resiny piney hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a solid DIPA. Right up my alley with hops and balance. Slightly too harsh and dank/catty/resiny.
