Bottle at home. Pour is viscous golden brown with no head - doesn’t look like there is any carbonation in this one. Huge bourbon, coconut, oaky, mapley, figgy, raisins, caramelly, and toffee in the aroma. Taste is coconut caramels, toffee, toasted wood, oak, earthy, grapefruit, prunes, and golden raisins with a hint of alcohol on the backend. Slick mouthfeel with no carbonation. The flavors are there and it’s incredibly smooth for 12%, but the complete lack of carboantion kills the experience for me.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Big thanks. Poured a murky dark brown with a whispy off-white head. The aroma is big wood, boozy bourbon alcohol, sweet fruit. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter with a rich chewy sweet, caramel malt, alcoholic, woody palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Looked awful but tasted great in small quantities.

Bottle shared. Pours murky golden brown with no real head. I’m getting massive wood from the aroma, along with the bourbon coming out strong, vanilla, toffee and sweet overripe dark fruit. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter. Probably the most woody beer I’ve had, so strong in the palate too. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Super thick and chewy mouthfeel. This is true beer geek beer, I would never want to drink a whole bottle by myself, but really enjoyable to share in a tasting. It’s like being in a caramel bourbon forest.

At Zeebra Beer Festival, THX to everybody sharing today’s beers. APPEARANCE: clear dark blond beer, small stable off white head. NOSE: alcohol, fruity, little hoppy, nice. TASTE: alcohol, fruity, hoppy, decent, but a bit too boozy.

Sampled @ Zeebra 2014. Very sweet. Rich, but the barley-wine-like sweetness is very dominating.

Troebele oranje kleur met een goede crème kraag. Ruikt zoet, crème, vanille. Smaakt vol, vanille, crème. Iets bittere afdronk.

Bottle / 2011: Thanks, Tim. Under-carbonated pour, but expected. Silky copper & amber with good clarity, absolutely no head at all. Sticky toffee covered figs & bourbon soaked raisins hit the nostrils first, followed by mild notes of brown sugar, blackstrap molasses, wet oak, & alcohol in the finish. Boozy, sweet, big; everything you’d expect to find in a Hair of the Dog old ale. Taste is sweet... VERY sweet. Raisins, figs, red apple skin, all layered with notes of sweet & warming bourbon, molasses, & caramelized brown sugar. Notes of anise, red licorice, & caramel candies grow with warmth, & I’m picking up just a hint of sweet vanilla in the aftertaste. Alcohol is noticeable, but kept in check due to the high sweetness. Slick, oily mouth feel, a little carbonation here would be nice. Very good flavors & aromas, but some ample carbonation would bring this one along nicely, methinks.

2011 poured from bottle to tulip glass. Hazy orange hue with thin white bubbles but no head. Aroma is figs, raisins, caramel, orange citrus, oak, big bourbon vanilla, grain. Mouthfeel is great with a full body and low carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with an astringentness in the following and lingering ethanol finish. Overall this is a low carbonated but fantastically full bodied and flavorfully complex brew!
