Bottle. Pours a flat pale brown mess. Aroma is bourbony with some weird candy notes. Taste has weird red fruit tartness and sweet candy along with bourbon and vanilla. Bad batches shouldn’t get bottled this is unfortunate.

Bottle at the brewery. 2012. Mild bourbon. Great dark gold color. Medium carbonation. Reminds me of fw double dba. Barrel aged light barleywine. Great beer.

"after having the awesomeness that was ADAM from the Wood, I was looking forward to this one. It was a nice beer, but did not improve on the base beer one bit, IMO. The bourbony fruity aroma and flavor were nice, and the smoothness hid the abv incredibly well, but the complexity is nearly gone, and apparently there were carbonation issues with some 11 batches, so it was close to flat. still good, just not a giant leap like AFTW was.""

Thanks to Martinus(?). 355 ml. bottle sampled. 2012 Vintage. This is supposed to be the good carbonated batch. Quite hazy brown with little head. Very thick bourbon nose, touch molasses, brown sugar, very thick malts,.. Thick vanilla oak taste, lots of bourbon, boozy in a good way with a very thick molasses, lots of brown sugar, very thick malt base, thick toffee, light charred oak, warming thick oak, lingering bourbon finish. Very thick & creamy, decadent, amazing but very brutal beer, almost too much but that is just the way I like, beast the regular Fred from the Wood if memory serves me well but not by much.

Pours dark brown . Smell is bourbon , walnuts .
Good carbo .
Taste is sweet , bourbon , buttery , vanilla , oak . Very nice

Pour is a murky pale brown with no head. Nose is strong bourbon and wood with a good bit of caramel and some hints of dark fig and fruits. Nose is more sweet, less bourbon. Caramel and lots of toffee, a bit of slightly charred wood and notes of bourbon. Flavors are a bit more muted than the nose. Full bodied, sticky and chewy, with virtually no carbonation and a soft clean finish.

Bottle @ RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty woody bourbon aroma with hints of caramel. Sweetish malty woody bourbon flavor. Has a sweetish malty woody bourbon caramel finish.

Bottle during RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room. 2012 release. Cloudy brown with off-white head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, dark fruit, caramel, toffee. Tastes of bourbon, oak, booze, caramel. Medium-light body with a dry and warm finish. Low carbonation.

Small sample from bottle @ Zeebra II. Pours hazy copper coloured with a medium white head. Aroma is quite sweet with bourbon, caramel, dark fruits and malts. Taste has raisins, dark fruits, some caramel and a medium bitter finish. Medum body and carbo. Quite nice for a barley wine.

12 oz bottles, 2011 & 2012. Cloudy brown with sparse froth; the 2012 kicks up a nice head with a stiff pour. For the 2011, nose is overripe peach and plum, brown sugar and stale sherry. The 2012 is much fresher caramel, raisin and bourbon. The 2011 is almost completely flat, slightly sticky medium body. The 2012 the same but with adequate carb. Taste is caramel, bourbon and wood with the 2011 version adding notes of spoiled dark fruit and musty oak. I don’t mind the lack of carb in the 2011 but the oxidation just ruins the taste. For me this would be a 6-3-6-2-15 = 3.2. The 2012 exhibits beautiful bourbon barrel aging perfectly complimenting the base Fred.
