At Hair of the Dog with Taylor, Stephen, Dina, and Rob. Pours dark maroon ruby port no head. Aroma is sweet port, kind of sweet red cherries, cranberry, complex red wine. Taste is interesting delicious brandy-like, sweetness is pleasent but balances the complex notes like a fine sherry or port, alcohol is deliciously dressed up with the various other notes. This thing is fantastic.

On tap at the Brewery. Pour is a beautifully deep merlot with a small head that quickly dissipated. Big plummy, grapey, heavy wood, light peach skin, woody, red wine, and toffee aroma. Taste is super complex - very wine like, tangy, grapey, tannic, woody, awesome fruit notes, ripe cherries and leather. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Very complex and very delicious.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours brown with a pinkish head. The aroma has lots of brandy, hints of cherry, brown sugar and an English barleywine yeastiness. It has a rich lush body with semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor has lush cherries, brandy, chocolate and leather,. The finish has mild heat added and is very pleasant. Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma of malts, cherries, wood, vanilla, oak and ripe fruits. Taste is smooth, heavy, complex and sweetish with loads of wood, cherries, oak, vanilla and raisins. Finish is sweet, malty and woody with loads of cherries and oak. Quite smooth, yet heavy and complex.

Tap @ HotD... Poured deep dark, bear black with purple/red highlights towards the edges. Aroma if cherry skins, grenadine, and spirits. Mouthfeel wasnít too heavy. Lush black cherry flavors, with vanilla cream and a strong sweetness mixed with oak and prunes/raisins. Some alcohol warmth but thinned out with the soft carbonation. More cherry flavor towards the finish.

On tap at the brewery. A: Dark cherry red. Thin head. Some lacing. N: Big cherry, brown sugar, prune, caramel, and honey. Vanilla and molasses. Some soy sauce. Licorice, oak, and raisin. T: Very sweet, but not at all cloying. Iím a bit surprised, honestly. Some fruit here. M: Treacly without any alcohol burn. O: Holy crap. Itís like a take on Matt. This has been reined in and is quite good where Cherry Fred is not.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a brownish red color with a very little white head. Aroma is brandy, some light cherry. A little heavy, syrupy on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is very sweet, brandy, lots of cherry, oak, raisin, light vanilla, with a sweet, brandy finish. Awesome.

Draft at hair of the dog. Pours deep, deep ruby with a small ring of pinkish microbubbles around the edge. This is a fred "golden ale" variant? Crazy. Aroma: brown sugar, cherries, sweet spirited nose (wish I was better versed in brandy so I could identify it. Taste: smooth and sweet. Alcohol is upfront, but no burn -- awfully smooth. Sweet but not cloying. Lovely. Full body, soft carbonation, slick and velvety on the tongue. Overall: canít believe fred is the base, but I guess I could say the same for Otto. This is delightful - glad I got a taste.
