4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the tasting room. Pours a dark, deep cherry red - pretty much indistinguishable from Cherry Adam. Pretty much no head, appears flat except for a small amount of bubbles at the top. Aroma is deep oak with some cherry and alcohol. I get bourbon out of this but itís probably just the intense vanilla and wood as I donít think this was in bourbon barrels. The cherries and oak in this have pretty much covered up the original Fred, making this seem extremely similar to Cherry Adam. Flavor is surprisingly drinkable, smooth even. Alcohol is hidden well. Wine-like fruitiness and complexity. I think I prefer the Cherry Adam at this point but this is still excellent if not completely different.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at the brewery. Been a long time since Iíve had this: like first batch brewed difference in time.
A: Blood red with a pinkish white head, and good lacing.
N: Cherry, toffee, biscuit, candy sugar, oak, touch of vinous grape, ample bourbon, and vanilla.
T: Very sweet but not cloying.
M: Medium oily body, tickling carbonation, no alcohol presence.
O: This is far superior to the previous version. The cherry is well integrated and adds an extra dimension to an already delicious beer.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear, reddish Amber color with a thin, light tan head. Aroma is cherry, some vanilla, some oak. Medium on the palate with creamy carbonation. Flavor is sweet, really sweet, some fruitiness, cherry, oak, light bourbon, maple syrup, with a sweet, oaky finish.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap @ HotD. Pours watery ruddy brown with very thin white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is light sugary malt that is quickly and completely overtaken by big sweet cherry flavors, light oakiness on the back. Taste is similar - although the cherries and red fruit are even more prominent here. The candi sugar does show up front, but those cherries and oak dominate the back. Quite a departure from standard Fred, this is right up my alley and I prefer it easily. Super beer, great flavor integration.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Boozy nose. Burnt sugar taste with some dark fruits. Bourbon comes through. Decent carbonation. Can't recall a better tasting barrel aged beer.
This is an amazing beer. Although this beer is listed as a barley wine it is in fact a Golden Strong Ale. At least it says that at the brewery.
Such a good transformation being aged in a bourbon barrel with cherries. Completely darkened it up and gave it such a smooth, mellowed taste.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Hair of the Dog, pours a deep dark mahogany with just a few bubbles for head. Aroma of rich cherries, liqueur, and candied sugar. Flavour is extremely rich and decadent, full of treacle toffee, caramel, candied sugar, and cherries - minimal notice of the barrels. Quite sweet, yet not cloying. The wood is barely apparent. Wonderful stuff in small quantities.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brewery. Pours a murky red brown color with no head. A big super sweet nose, some yeast and cherries, toffee, heat. The flavor is more cherries, super sweet barrel and malts, intense brew. Very thin palate, no carbonation really. Slick, very sugary even a hint of smoke. This pushes like Matt, AFTW and other HOTD beers to a super sweet strong ale category. As such, it is a damn good beer!
