COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dave is an English Barley Wine. This beer was produced in 1994, and won first place at the 1998 Toronado Barley Wine Festival. The strength was achieved by taking 300 gallons of Adam and freezing it three times, leaving only 100 gallons. Always used as a teaching aid, it was produced to show people that Beer could be more than what they had experienced, and continues to do that today.

Tasted at Kans place brought by Jason - thanks my friend! A deep brown beer with no head. Vinous aroma with plenty of caramel, mocha, dark malt and a nice alcohol sensation. Like a good dessert wine, strong and powerfull yet balanced. Flavor is dominated by cocoa with a dry mouthfeel like cocoa powder. Strong and vinous and rather sweet of course but not over the top. Like a good liquor, extremely smooth. I sense some apricot and a salty hint in there as well. No doubt an insane beer and if it is 29% or not I donít know, but it feels at least as heavy as Utopias. A great experience!

Bottle @ Hair of the Dog. Somehow managed to be the 100th rating for this. Not sure that really means anything. Thanks to all the fellow dumbasses who also blew way too much money on this. Flat and black in color with no head. Big bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of soy sauce. Some notes of peat and smoke. Lots of chocolate, in fact. Decent bit of burnt sugar as well. There is a lot of peat and smoke at first, followed by big time chocolate oxidation. Caramel sweetness, some dark fruits, soy sauce, and a decent bit of booze. Chocolate covered almonds and blueberry. Pretty interesting stuff and honestly way better than I expected.

Well this may have been one of those moments in beer tasting you will remember the rest of your life. I got a good taste of this thanks to the incredible generosity of Todd. I can not thank you enough for letting me share in this experience. The beer was very black and had no head by the time I saw it Nose of sugar and a ton of other aromas. Full body. No sign of alcohol which is amazing by itself. The flavor is a fantastic rich bitter sweet with wood, vanilla, and dark fruit. Really really good. I am in beer heaven. .

Bottle at the brewery, RBSG. Thanks to Doug for sharing
Dark brown, no head, good legs left in the glass. Aroma is woody, caramel, vanilla and leather. Taste of vanilla, woody and mild smokiness
Wow, glad I got to try this one.

Bottle @ HotD (huge ups to hannont for the sip & tick)... Smelled of caramelized brown sugars, prunes, and even had an Adam essence to it. Zero carb, still, flat, and cloying mouthfeel. I could taste this beer on my lips for minutes. Tasted of brown, toasted sugars, fortified wine blended with scotch. Dark fruit notes similar to dates and prunes. Oxidation, but not as heavy as I was expecting, and had a lot of complexity from alcohol yet no alcohol burn or heat to it.

Bottle at the brewery. Pours a deep dark mahogany with no head. Aroma is decadent as hell, with dark dried fruits, toffee, molasses and alcohol. Flavour is super hot, with smoke, leather, followed by treacle toffee. The alcohol is still super hot after all these years, though as it warms, itís actually less abrasive. Itís basically Adam on steroids. Fantastic and what a treat of a unique experience.

Bottle from HOTD. Generously shared with me by hannont, even though I couldnít afford the cost to split. Beer people are good people, too good, and Todd especially is unbelievably generous -- hope I can return the favor some day, dude. Really appreciate it.

for the most part, I try to be objective about a beer when I rate. But for some beers like this, itís not possible. Iíll describe it -- deep dark brown pour, no head or carbonation, dark mollasses brown sugar; condensed Adam on steroids, beautifully rich, decadent ... Seems ageless, like kmweaverís mythical infinity juice.

But this rating isnít really about that. The beer is retired. Youíre only getting it here at HOTD as part of something special (or maybe youíre getting it through some other means by trading/paying a ton for it, but this isnít about that either). This is about the experience. And at RBSG, after a jereboam of Fred batch 30 thatís still sitting on our table, with a grand tasting still to come, surrounded by other RBians, Iím not even going to pretend to be objective. The beer is certainly a 4.something. The experience rates much higher.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2015 Bottle - Vintage 1994 - Dark caramels, sark sugar, touch of toffee. Deep dark brown with no head. Sweet, charred wood, char, fish sauce and a long finish. No heat in the taste. Very nice considering the age.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2015 Bottle. Well weíve reached peak insanity. Pours a dark black brown color with no head. The aroma is big sweet malts, sugary, hot, oak. The flavor is big sweet Adam, heat, tobacco, molasses, roast, chocolate, so much oxidation and heat. Thin palate of course. An experience. Hard to say really how good this is/was. My main thought was that it tasted a lot like an old Adam. That makes sense! No doubt it is good, also no doubt it is a bit of a eccentric appetiteís satisfaction. Iíd love to see Alan make a ice Adam again, I see no reason why not. The few bottles of this left wonít make that much. No doubt as well that this is pretty good.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2015 Bottle. Sip stolen thanks to Todd! A: Pitch olive black with no to none head. N: Honey, bandaid, phenol, coffee oxidation, black olive, soy sauce, charred brown sugar, more in the line of Coal Islay Scotches. T: Bitter, smokey, and sweet M: Resinous oily body, light carbonation. Easy to tell this is iced Adam. O: Wow. Still going strong; Iíve heard itís disappointing, but I wasnít (obviously). I will say that there are many, many similarities here to the Adam in Ardbeg Barrels - particularly in the nose and if you canít have this, then have that.

boozy and malty with old ale flavor of cognac and fruit. some hop layered in the background. anise and licorice give a sting with an earthy tobacco like dimension. powerful with a bit of aged grape.
