Aroma is sweet malt, hops, brown sugar and some booze. Flavor is sweet malt, dark fruits, hops, brown sugar, booze. Mouthfeel is flat. Finishes sticky and sweet like HoTD Fred and DFH 120. I liked this better than Fred but still not my favorite barleywine. It has a nice complexity but I prefer a thicker mouthfeel and more carbonation. HonkeyBra (1320), Lemont, Illinois, USA

Nose of pine, funky french cheese, maple. Luscious, velvety mouthfeel with a touch of heat and stickiness. Flavor is robust brown suggary malt and undertones of leather, jerky, smoke and dark wood. Notes of Fred, really... this is most definitely a HOTD beer. Very well balanced, unique and intriguing BW; i’m very impressed. Would love to try this aged... malrubius (977), Valley Stream, New York, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Marvelous drink. Huge hop character atop an incredible fruit-laced, honey-sweetened, caramelized barleywine malt backbone. The hops really shine with fantastic spicy character and floral components. Slight herbal bits with notable raisin and plum. Incredible complexity that is well matched to a fantastic hop lineup and a well hidden alcohol content. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
