curly (549), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 24, 2009 Pours murky brown-orange with little head. Aroma is like pine sap, grapefruit, light alcohol, very bitter. Taste is almost like Dogfish 120™ but maybe not as thick, but hops are mostly prevalent with barely enough Barley wine characteristics to classify it as such. Smooth body, bitter hop and honey finish. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Sep 24, 2009 Rating #500!!! Bottle with thanks to Ditmier and Beerman6686 respectively. Man. This thing pours like an apple cider...completely opaque with no head. Smells like a freshly opened hop....didnt really expect that. Flavors is a creamy silky blend of hops, a touch of caramel and light ginger...pine toffee and some bandaid funk. The semi nasty thing was the white pus oozing from the dregs of the bottle. Rather solid beer...literally.Finish has a somewhat spicy alcohol taste, with notes of honey floating in and out. Awfully good. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Sep 24, 2009 My 300th rating! Thanks to Butters for this bottle. Pours a hazy amber with no head. Some floaters as well. In fact yeast crusted at the top of the bottle and exploded upon opening, very cool looking. Aroma of citrus hops, dark fruit, caramel, booze. Similar taste, very fruity and boozy with a slight resiny hop finish. Thick mouthfeel. Definitely an old bottle, but very enjoyable. Cheers! Butters (1623), Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2009 Bottle shared with the barrios, scottyp, curly. Thanks to lithy! After a very eventful bottle opening (the bottle litterally sharted yeast cake) it has a particulate filled dark amber pour with thin ring of clearish head. Nose is amazing hoppy, with pine and alcohol and peat. Extremely resiny pine hop with a lingering sweet honey finish. Very tasty, but i would say this is more of a dipa. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 24, 2009 Pours a fading ring of beige head with a copper body. Aromas of caramel, resin, slightly floral. Flavor is sweet, little spicy, herbal, some resin. Good, oily body. Floral, bready, sweet finish. Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 19, 2009 Bottle 2006 shared by alexsdad06.
Poured hazy reddish brown color with a minimal frothy off-white head that slowly diminished with minimal lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruity and woody aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration.
This is a complex standout beer. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 12, 2009 Draught at the brewery. Thanks, Alan.
2008 version. Big citrus hops aroma with cherry, honey; very fruity. Smooth palate, fruity and hoppy flavor but limited bitterness. Huge fruitiness with a fabulously complex hop character. Love it!
beernbourbon (236), chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 10, 2009 Bottle thanks to Suzygreenberg. Pour is cloudy red/brown with a very small but persistent tan head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy with a nice toffee and caramel malt aroma. It’s very bright and enticing. Flavor is sweet and tart up front. Hops are notably less intense in the flavor than in the aroma. Flavor also has a nice port wine and honey flavor that lingers. It’s complex, well balanced and really delightful.
