Commercial Description:
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense herbal hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster, July 2004

Nice head for a barley wine. Aroma is vinous with grape and dark plums. Flavour is rich and thick but the alcohol is noticeable and its quite sweet.

Bottle from trade with Dubbercody. Thanks Jamie! Pours a nice hazy golden color with a fat frothy off-white head. After the pour there was still a bit of sediment in the bottle. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, hops and fruit. Taste is outstanding of all of the above items. This is a rich full bodied Barley wine with a complex yet balanced taste. Outstanding!

[Bottle from Beermouth tasted with the hop-bros at Jess’ cosy inn.] Sweet salty barley wine with some bitterness in aftertaste. Full body.

12oz bottle, 2004 vintage, courtesy of kramer17801. Thanks, Jason! Bottom of the bottle (the top was clearer) pours a murky brown appearance; off-white head with decent lacing. Very aromatic, hoppy nose: sweet pine and floral notes, hints of grapefruit, slightly herbal. Full mouthfeel: candy sugar, caramel, white pepper; hints of vanilla as well; all surrounded by piney and grapefruit hops, a bit of orange; slightly viscous, chewy, well-balanced. Finishes pleasantly sweet; hoppiness is blended well at this age. Great beer.

This is an all out attack. The beer doesn’t play nicely and it want’s you to know they aint messing around. The aroma I could smell all day. Spices, fruit, malt and hops combine together to make a great combo. Appearance is a hazy dark orange color, almost copper-like. Mouthfeel is a little weak, but what it makes up for is hiding the alcohol content very well. Flavors are damned near perfect, and almost define what an American b-wine should be like. Kudos to HotD for making another great beer.
