Tweety (337), Vancouver, Washington, USA Apr 14, 2009 Man, I really want to like these Hair of the Dog brews, they’re just not my thing. All too sweet and malty for me... TheJollyOne (204), Kofu, Japan Apr 13, 2009 Dark and clear copper/amber body, amazingly steady lacing on small head. The nose reached accross the room! Very rich honey and malts, tons of over ripe fruits and some toffee. Too many scents to break down, a lot going on. Very sweet taste, a bit over the top, but it clams down through the sip. Some spice in the opening as well. Very rich. Fruits, toffee, and rum sweets as well. A very rich and complex brew. Palate is pure oily syrup. A beautiful desert wine, but it almost bowled me over after imbibing some others first. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Apr 10, 2009 12 oz. Bright orange/amber pour with a small amount of off white head. Quite a bit of bubbles throughout and nice lacing. Sweet malt and candied fruit aroma. Just hints of citrus and pine. A less lively mouthfeel than it appears, quite sticky. Taste has much sweet malt and candied fruits. Brown sugar and piney citrus accent it. Finish is lingering candy as well. Thought it would be just a bit more drinkable with some more carbonation. I think this is a pretty unique take on the style though, and definetely worth trying. 2nd good brew I’ve had from HOTD in 2 tries. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Apr 8, 2009 Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry- Pours a very still deep rusty bronze. Bose is big and fruity, fig and plum, some gold rum, hop resin, pine, lots of wood. Tastes of sweet caramel malts, earthy piney hops, grapefruit, bourbon, butterscotch. Nice. Still again in the finish, very warming, syrupy. A good sipper. Thanks Harry! SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Apr 3, 2009 2006 bottle... . lots of sugary aromas, honey and golden syrup .. . dark golden on the pour, head b+ .. . sooo smooth, age is good .. . sweet molasses and more golden syrup.. . albatross cum, very nice .. enjoyable.. . Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Apr 3, 2009 Thanks for sharing, bro!
Pours a coppery caramel-color with a lot of tapioca-looking sediment. Aroma is resinous hops, earthiness, and apple peel. Taste is rather bitter with earthy hops, apple, and slight caramel malts. I expected more from this, but not too bad. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Apr 3, 2009 Trade from Ross. Thanks man. Pours a cloudy caramel color with no head. Seriously, it looked like a Werther’s candy had diarrhea in my glass. Anyway, the aroma is intensely hoppy. Man, lots of grapefruit and citrus intermingle with alcohol, some lemon, caramel, and light spice. Taste is citrus hops, alcohol, caramel, and some fruitiness. Very small trace of carbonation but the alcohol is not boozy, just warming. Lot of grainy sediment in this one as well, like I was drinking sand. Not what I was expecting from HOTD, but still a decent beer. Thanks Ross! radiomgb (1921), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Apr 1, 2009 Very deep amber in colour with a long lasting beige head, good lacing. The aroma is very rich with lots of malt, caramel, gingerbread, light alcohol, dark fruits and figs. The flavour is a bit oxidized, more alcohol is noticeable then in the aroma, gingerbread, stale hops with a moderate bitterness. Warming mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, malty and quite warm.
I found this one weird. Definitely starting to show some age. High bitterness makes it a bit harsh at times, I would like to see this a little smoother.
355ml bottle obtained in a trade with 5000, thanks Andre.
