Commercial Description:
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with Organic Pilsner malt, British crystal and dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster

Pours orange with a thin white head. Good lacing in my snifter. Nice aromas of caramel, toffee, pine hops, and heavy alcohol. Medium to Full bodied with some fizzy carbonation. Texture was slick with a average bitterness and a heavy sweetness. Overall an awesome barleywine.

12oz bottle courtesy of mfielden. Pours a hazy dark caramel with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of honey, chocolate, citrus, caramel some slight spice. Flavor is sweet and floral with honey, caramel, malt, apple, bread, some hints of spice and yeast with notes of phenol as well. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing caramel malt finish. Nice BW.

2005 Bottle. Poured a ruby color with a creamy tan head that had some lasting and left light lace. Nice aroma of chocolate and honey with a light hopped undertone. The flavor found honey, caramel, chocolate and a hop background. Medium to full body, sweet, and a honey aftertaste. Very nice.

[Bottle] brought back from S.F. Pours a hazy caramel with a soapy beige head. Powerful malty aroma with some citric hops, caramel/toffee, and significant alcohol. Flavor is a bit different from the aroma, and is lighter than what I was expecting. Plenty of alcohol presence, caramel, fruity yeastiness, somewhat oily palate, and a touch of butter.

08 vintange bottle shared with the kid. Pours a cloudy amber brown with mild carbonation that looks a little oily on the glass. Malty, bready but not much for a hop aroma as far as I can tell. Alchohol warming over the tongue with a load of sweet caramel and bit of a butter to the taste and a little oily on the tongue. This one may have been consumed while it was a bit young but it was very good none-the-less.

2007 bottle thanks to my sis in law who said "This looked neat and I thought you would like it!" HA! 12oz bottle pours medium copper brown with a slight off white head. Alot of dark fruits come out in the aroma. Some figs, toffee, creme brulee, caramel and even some oak in the taste. A bit of chocolate at the end. Some alcohol bunr, but not overly noticeable. Very easy drinking and just what I needed on a Friday.

Plumb and malt and sweetness. As amazing as this barley wine is, it baffles me since most Hair of the Dogs defy taxonomic categorization. But this...this is a barley wine. No doubt about it. A great barley wine. Caramel. Sweet. Really nice.

A very interested brew. I was told that it should be left to age, and would better with age, but I’m not typically one to cellar beers, so I consumed it upon returning to my home. This was the most tasty, drinkable barleywine I have ever encountered. I usually have a hard time consuming them. Citrus aroma and sweet caramel malts. Fresh hops up front and ends sweet with a slight hint of alcohol. Very good beer!
