Jun 9, 2006 2005 bottle. Lovely example of the barleywine style, with classic HotD idiosyncrasy. The blend between simcoe and wild honey is intense, but it’s balanced by some notes of bitter herbs. Fine, fine stuff.

Mar 23, 2005 Deep rich ruby. Soft tan head. Really hoppy nose.. reminds me a bit of foghorn. Distinctly peant butter/peanut brittle nose. Verrry interesting. Amazing rich malt, perfectly balanced. For some reason this reminds me of Chicken Satay. You would think that would be a bad thing but it isn’t. Some sweet syrupy orange, lots of caramel. I love this.

Oct 20, 2008 Vintage 2004. Pours a hazy dark amber with an off white head and a few floaties. Smells of caramel. Quite sweet with lots of toffee aromas. Also aromas of raisins and prunes. Also a faint touch of citric hopsaromas. Full body. Medium carbonation. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Some residual sugars. Short toffee-and-raisin finish. Awesome. BIG thanks to whoever traded me this one; sorry for forgetting who you are.

12 ounce bottle shared by Tim. Pours red/orange with a tan head. Light grapefruit hops and bubble gum aromas. Pine and grapefruit hops with honey sweetness. Full body. Medium carbonation. Sweet finish.

12 ounce bottle shared by Tim. Pours deep red/brown with a slim light brown head. Huge oxidized toffe and caramel nose. A bit of cardboard. A bit of spice. So rich with Reisen and Werthers candies. Light cherry. A touch of smoke. Med/full body. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. Fantastic beer. Easily one of the best barley wines I’ve ever tried.

Oct 21, 2007 2006 bottle. Cloudy dark amber body with lots of yeast sediment and no head. The aroma is quite sweet and floral with lots of resinous pine and gobs of sticky toffee. The flavor is very sweet, lightly bitter with grapefruit, pine, caramel, toffee, light brown sugar, raisins and rum. Full sticky body is chewy with very light carbonation.

Dec 15, 2006 Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is of sweet malts and hops. Flavor is sweet right off which melds into bitter hops. Good barley wine.

Jul 7, 2004 2003 bottle. Poured a deep russet color with a tannish/khaki head. Thin head persisted throughout. Very malty aroma, raisinish. Taste of sweet malt, slight alcohol. Hops come into play and make presence noted. Slightly piney. I think it is slightly overcarbonated, but a damn fine brew. Kudos.

Dec 23, 2007 Tasted 11/26/07. 2006. 12oz bottle. Hazy with a ruby hue. Large bubbled head. Musty alcohol nose. Aromas of cocoa and toast. Woody dank and musty. Full bodied with a big palate and big alcohol. Dried fruit flavors and a tingling bitter acidic hop profile. Ebbed yet sweet. Touch woody. Good Juice! Nice melded hop flavor. Fruity notes mixed with sweet cinnamon and caramel. Viscous and rich. Tasty!
