Commercial Description:
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with Organic Pilsner malt, British crystal and dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster

courtesy of fiulijn; 2005 vintage - cloudy copper colour; the foam quickly disappears; very hoppy and malty nose: herbal, yeasty with notes of nougat and caramel; very thick and oily; robust malt body, lot of carbonation and a very strong astringent bitterness; notes of burning alcohol in a long bitter finish; very flowery and yeasty - a hugely complex hop bomb

2003 12oz-Pours a deep mahogany like a good belian ale. Aromas of pineapple, pineapple and more pineapple. Head is a slight off-white with beautiful micro bubbles. The smell is amazing.... let's see if the taste is there... Flavors of melon, pineapple and spice with lots of little bubbles tingling the tongue. Tastes of belgian yeast are also their.

#400. Muddy reddish brown. Head is a smooth creamy lasty froth. Quite attractive. The aroma is spicy hops. Delicious combination of sweet malt and cleansing hop finish. Equisite barley wine.

Thanks to rudolf for this one. Deep ruby-brown colour with a massive tan head. Outstanding aroma of piney hops, lemon, and some nutty earthiness. Flavour is big and full, with citrus and hops off the top, and a strong malty background to balance things off well, and a dry, boozy warmth in the finish. Very, very good.

magnum bottle. 2004. thanks a lot to wohlfs for contributing this to the party. murky brown-mahogany body with a small off-white head. aroma is beautiful - caramel, woody oak character, butterscotch, chewy pine hops, and yeast. the body is immensely complex! very sweet malty flavours with fruit and warm bread notes. superb balance. finishes with a sticky residue on the lips. tasty!

Thin light beige head from a soft pour. Loads of sediment in the bottom of this one. Good carbonation for a BW. Wonderful aroma loads of piney hops, oranges and sweet malts. Color is a ruddy dark orange copper. Smooth and creamy in the mouth. Lots of hops presence along with a bit of roasty dryness. Not as sweet as many barleywines. Boy they got the balance right with this one. More pine and caramel. Hides its alcohol very well for a 10+% brew. Little bit of peanuts also. FInish is dry and bitter with a nice lingering hops aftertaste. A top quality barleywine especially is the BIG sweet ones are not to your liking. Thanks to robertsrealty for this great brew.

This is still a great brew that will continute to be even greater 5 or 6 years from now, although I have to say I enjoyed the previous vintage a little bit more, this is still going to rank in as one of my favorite barleywines of all time. A deep hazy amber color, that hades into a deep rich brown color with little to no head. A big hop aroma just a before, with a huge malt character, this one has a little bit more of a peaty chocolate taste than I remember, and slightly nutty, like a scottish or english strong ale would have. Excellent!

Didn’t write down the vintage but I bet this has to be the one I had. Nice floral and caramel in the nose. Flavor is pretty good, not heavy at all until the aftertaste. Not too hoppy, and maybe just a slight bit not agressive enough.
