COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with Organic Pilsner malt, British crystal and dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster

Bottle, 2004. A dark brown with light ruby tints, thin and quick white head. Heavily hopped aroma, with some caramel laced pine cones swimming in cognac. A body of molasses syrup, dried plums. Endless depth and class, a flavor which escapes vocabulary and transcends the world of beer. A masterstroke in the art of barleywine.

A- Pours a cloudy, blood orange hue with little to no head. S- Sweet caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar with a nice hoppy afterthought. T- Dark fruits, fig, caramel and a wave of piney hops that sweep across the tongue. M- Thick with low carbonation. D- Although carbonation was a little low for my liking this is an amazing beer. Extremely tasty.

Bottle share in 2013. Pour is deep ruby with no head. Aroma is of pineapple juice, toffee, caramel, and candi sugar. Flavor is similar with the hops coming out more - citrus, floral, honey, dark caramel. Finish is hoppy and boozy.

On tap at the brewery. 2013 vintage. Pours a dark brown with light head. Aromas of candy, dark fruit, and roasted malts. Flavours are same; smooth, malty, and sweet. Really well balanced. Also had the 2004 in a 12 oz bottle Poured a dark garnet red brown. Aromas of brown sugar, raisins, dark caramel, and roasted malts. Flavors are rich and similar. Incredible. 9/4/9/5/18

2013 bottle. Pours a very murky brown color with a nice foamy light tan head. Lots of sticky pine in the nose, chocolate and caramel, light citrus, dark cherries and plums, and a nice bready malt note. Nice piney hops up front on the taste, nice dark red fruits, toffee, caramel, and a great earthy flavor coming through.

Sample at Ale Alpharetta. Pours brown, with almost no head. Bitter chocolate is dominant in the nose, with notes of maple syrup and vanilla. Very sweet flavor, with a light bitterness, and a slightly dank finish. Heavy body, sticky, thick, and grainy. Overall, this is a nice, sweet and malty beer.

Bottle from bytemesis - thanks!! Very murky reddish brown pour. Raisin / dark grape, caramel sweetness, graham cracker, maybe a bit of grapefruit. Very smooth and full on the tongue. Excellent!

12 ounce bottle into snifter, 2012 vintage bottling. Big crack upon opening, very highly carbonated. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy ruby red color with a 2-3 finger foamy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, citrus rind, pine, pepper, floral, grass, caramel, toast, brown sugar, raisin, honey, herbal, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, orange zest, citrus rind, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, honey, floral, grass, pine, herbal, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest/rind, pine, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, honey, floral, herbal, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops with dark malt/honey flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barleywine. All around great balance and complexity of malt and hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

11% abv, listed on bottom of label. $6.99 for the 12 ounce bottle purchased from El Cerrito earlier today. To pint, it pours a smoggy, hazy varnish dark brown; no head visible, only bubbles, but they had dispersed rather quickly. Aromas of wet tobacco, graham crackers, honey, duct tape, licorice, burnt rubber, elderberries, pilsner malt, sour grass, carrots, sweet onions, grapes, cedar, and caramel. Tastes the same with the addition of topsoil, walnuts, booze, cotton, white chocolate, English yeast, duck fat, and sage. Hibiscus, feta, cinnamon, and hops by swallow. Packs a wallop! Dangerously drinkable. Alcohol crept progressively, but wasn’t hidden. Had a slight underlying acidic note hinting at orange peels and limes. Good grief, is there a lot in this little bottle.
