4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared with LeopoldStoch. Pours dark orange with tan head. The aroma is wood, tobacco, spice, and vanilla. The taste was really surprising. The wood comes through very prominently but there is a rye flavor to this that compliments the the wood so well. The rye flavor is kept in check by subtle vanilla and tobacco notes. The 10% alcohol is very well hidden. I was pretty damn surprised how much I enjoyed this beer and even more surprised that I liked it better than Cherry Adam from the Wood.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap @ HotD. Pours cloudy light orange amber with thin creamy lacy head. Aroma is big oaky bourbon with effervescent sweet fruit as well. Taste is similar to normal Fred, just cranked up a couple notches. Crisp light malt, restrained candi sugar, Belgian yeast notes, big oaky finish. I know this isn’t bourbon Fred, but those flavors come out here. Amazing beer, well worth seeking out and paying the premium for.

1700 rate. 12oz bottle from a trade. Pours a dark copper color with an off white head, great lacing. Aroma is heavy on the wood, with hints of vanilla, tobacco, and subdued malts. The flavor is slightly harsh with wood and alcohol dominating. The sweet malts come through at the end with a slight hoppy bitterness.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2009 year bottle as a lucky grab from a shelf in Ocean Beach. Pours a murky amber color with a small toffee colored creamy looking head. Aroma of honeycomb, molasses, maple syrup, some lemony soapy aroma. Flavor is big sweet toffee, figs, maple syrup, honey, bready, sweet brown sugar and molasses, oak, vanilla. Vanilla oak, tobacco, and maple on the finish, lingering dry on the palate. Light booze and warmth but the dryness of the oak keeps it in check. Heavy bodied but still with medium high carbonation that prickles the tongue. Huge complex flavors. Awesome brew and I was surprised how much oak remained on this after 4 years.
