Rapture. In. A. Glass. This beer has everything. It crosses so many delicious borders all at once. It has such a sweet note to it, very sugary -like a tripel or a belgian strong -but not candy sweet. It is still backed by a little bit of bite to it, bitterness and alcohol like a barley wine. But is so mellow -and the wood flavor comes out right at the end, just ...just fantastic. Back to it tho- This has a slightly smokey, ginger, raisin brown sugar and molasses scent. Flavor is like overly ripe banana in its sweetness and softness, but cuts with some bitterness and the alcohol. This is fantastic stuff. Many many many thanks to Chuck’s in Chagrin to having one bottle of this in the back actually for sale.

Tap at Omnipollos Hatt. Pours clear amber with very small, thin line off white head. Aroma is dominated by caramel, honey, vanilla and a little boozy notes. Taste is sweetish but balanced between vanilla, bourbon, honey, caramel and some light spices.

Draught at Hatten. Pale clear bright orange amber, no head. Gluey alcohol caramel and dried fruits with some leather and spice. Sweet and spicy alcoholic with leather, citrus and dried fruits. Spicy prickly alcoholic finish. Salty. Big body, low pointy carbonation, oily sticky. Complex, hot and fruity. Probably quite nice after a few years.

2008 vintage bottle shared at the Grem. Huge oak-forward nose with honey, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and star anise. Good sherry-like mouthfeel with more vanilla and oak really dominating again. Very creamy on the palate. Sweet and oaky on the finish. Really fantastic beer for a person who doesn’t like most barley wines.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2016 On tap at the brewery. Cloudy orange pour with bone white foam and top to bottom sheeting lace. Taste is sweet and savory with fantastic flavors of toasted coconut, toffee, vanilla, licorice. Aroma is woody along with all other taste deScriptors. Finely carbonated, creamy mouthfeel. My first perfect beer after almost seven years on this site, holy cow. Regular Fred is one of my favorite beers of all time and barrel aging just raises up an already awesome beer to phenomenal in every respect.

Draft. Aroma of. Tight, thin lace. Flavors of apple cider, chewy caramel, a hint of toffee. Oak comes through at the finish, slightly high register, then a clean finish. No hint of booze. Just flavor.

@ Hair of the dog 16-3-9: stor tydlig bourbonton med smak av russin och malt. Småtrevlig.
