mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Jul 14, 2008 Updated: Jul 15, 2008deep murky gold pour with a huge cream head. fruits, hops and bitter sweet malts on the nose. thickness is great and the malts are very present with a fruity, caramely, taste that finishes with a slight hop bitterness. I could definitely see some age on this being awesome. Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 13, 2008 Brought to my place by 1 2many during our home brew session. Obviously a great beer for brewing inspiration. Pours a dark golden haze with a myriad of different hues when held to the light. Has a big intense, long lasting, white frothy head. Has a wonderful aroma of floral, fruity hops. When tasted, I immediately knew it had to have many different varieties of hops, which I now see is 10 different types. You can definitely taste the complexity of the competing flavors of all the different hops. A very enjoyable beer and I can’t wait to re-rate it after drinking the currently aging bottle in my cellar! 12many (231), Ohio, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle thanks to my uncle visiting Portland. I wouldn’t classify this as a Barley wine (although there are a few similarities) but wow. Copperish amber in the glass with a large strong head. Carmel malt aroma with more than an average amount of hops. Very sweet upfront with a mild bitterness both of which last on the tongue for a while. Extremely good. Can’t wait to try this aged for a while. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 12 oz bottle, Batch #63 from panatap - thanks Kan!!! Clear, dark amber with a lovely eggshell head. Huge sweet malt nose, flowery notes, tinged with a honeylike quality. Sweet toffee flavors, mild floral bite. Rich, full body, very silky smooth. A mild earthiness comes through in the finish, as well as a touch of nondescript citrus. Excellent sheetlike lace. Delish. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle at the Hop Devil Grill. Imagine always wanting to try a mythical great beer and walking into a new pub one day, only to find that beer sitting right there. Yep, that is what I got. Made all of my friends try it, too. Pours an amber orange with a thin white head. Very nice hop aroma, lots of citrus as well as a caramel, dark fruit balance. Very carbonated. Sharp taste with lots of pungent hops, dark sweet malts. Balanced and delicious. I could see this being great with some age. Aquilo (248), California, USA Jul 7, 2008 I opened the beer and went to sniff the bottle, and I got shot in the nose with beer foam! Either someone shook my beer, or this one has a phenomenal head. There is more foam than beer in my glass right now, and I have been waiting for it to settle for several minutes. I see from past reviews that the amount of head is extremely variable. Interresting.
Smell is green apples, barley, nectarines, and a touch of cinnamon. Flavor is sweet and creamy necter. Peaches, honey, nutmeg, cloves, and ceylon cinnamon. Medium bodied and velvety smooth. Just about perfect. This may be the champagne of the beer world. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle - batch 72. Pours a cloudy burnt orange with almost no head sans for a ring around the glass. Nose is raisins, plums, caramelized brown sugar and alcohol. Taste is toffee, sweet brown sugar, nuts and earthy herbal notes with a slight bitter finish. Very warming brew – doesn’t hide the alcohol very well in spite of its sweetness. Full mouth feel and a bit sticky on the lips. Very good. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2008 Poured a nice golden yellow color with a nice fluffy white head. Aroma was of some spices, and hops. Flavor was extremely smooth somewhat with a belgian candy sugar flavor but with a nice hoppy bitter finish.
