(bottle, batch 62) Pours out a hazy reddish amber with a towering white head that never fully dissipates and leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is initially somewhat floral and fruity, but as the beer warms, the rye malt really asserts itself, and creates a strong bready scent. There is also some pepper at this point, along with some light oxidation, and a substantial amount of citrus as well. This is quite complex. Taste is sweet caramel, candi sugar, which yields to a fruity (pineapple, tangerine) and spicy hop finish that lingers quite nicely, even though this beer is aged. The mouthfeel and carbonation is spot on. A really good beer from HOTD, and it could definitely age even longer.

[Bottle, Batch 62] Pours hazy reddish amber with a good cream head. Really bready aroma with a little fruitiness, some pepper and caramel malt--I can definitely see the rye in there. Quite nice. Taste is somewhat sweet with a little alcohol and a lot of malt. Not surprisingly the hops have really faded on this. Pretty thick mouthfeel and quite smooth with a long finish. A very solid barley wine.

4-5-08 bottle shared at tasting
Clear brown orange with no head. Smell is sweet and oaky (perhaps an oxidation issue). Flavor is rich oak and malt. Nice sweet alcohol flavor that actually works well here. Would like to try another bottle.

Aroma of maltr and some spicy rye behind the upfront hops. Loads of both spicy, grassy and citrussy hops. The flavour is the same, except for the fruity esters and floral flavours. Very delicious and quite unorthodox for a barley wine. The spicy and estery tones nearly continental instead of Amarican...

A- Pours a cloudy peachy orange color with a small head which sits on top for quite a while. S- Smell isn’t too strong but it’s sort of rosy, floralesque. T- Sweet, quite a bit of alcohol yeasty floral notes with a hop kick in the ass at the end. M- Thick with decent carbonation. D- Definitely my favorite hair of the dog beer yet. I honestly didnt dig adam or rose whatsoever but this one really came together well. I wouldn’t categorize it as american barleywine but then again none of the hair of the dog beers ive had so far really fit in to the commonly accepted categories they are placed in and I commend the brewer on that.

The color was golden/orange. The head was creamy, thin and white. The aroma was citrisy, hoppy, alcohol, and apricot. The flavor was sweet, crisp, dark fruit, hops, and alcohol. The palate was full-bodied. The finish was hoppy and warm.

Pours a subsistent copper yellow. The head is less than a finger thick, creamy, light yellow. The aroma is sweet, fruity, smells like sherry, alcohol, caramel, spicy rye. The flavor is big and spicy, rye, hoppy, citrusy, waxy, warm alcohol, rich. Very nice warm spicy mouthfeel, goes down a little hot. Very nice barley wine.
