A lazy rerate. I added a point to the overall. This bottle is from the same batch as the original rating. Only thing I can add is that the alcohol is present in the aroma and flavor, but doesn’t seem any stronger than the 10%. BItterness peaked at a 3 in the finish. It didn’t seem like I enjoyed this last time I had it, but a year and a half later, I do like it--though it’s still pretty sweet. Old rating follows. 12oz Batch 62 from Hi-Time Wine. Pours a cloudy orange caramel with a huge 3 1/2 finger beige head with good retention. Aroma of yeast, raisins, herbal and floral hops, honey, spices, caramel and toffee. Flavor is a bit more earthy (dirt) and a lot more bitter with some off sourness. Very sweet with a dry lingering bitter finish. Highly carbonated with a medium to full body. Didn’t really see why this was so highly rated. Maybe got a bad batch of bottles since all of the HOTD bottles I picked up don’t have the cap on straight, though I’ve heard this isn’t unusual for HOTD.

Bottle. Very hoppy take on the Barley Wine theme. Head was average and off-white that quickly diminished. Color was hazy brown with particles in flow. Aroma was incredible complex with first impression being lots of hops, grapefruit, pine, elder flower. Other notes come into play, caramel, wood, toffee, and cookie. Full bodied with a syrup sticky like texture and a surprisingly average to fizzy like carbonation feel in mouth. Flavor is moderated bitter, with balancing sweet notes. Finish is dry and bitter that lingers for a long time. Very explosive experience, well brewed! Re-Rate: #17 Bottle [Sk8viking great American blind tasting] Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Hazy amber color with particles in flow. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel, fruit. Over the palate came toffee, alcohol, pine. Medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation and dry texture. Moderated sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Lingering bitter dry grapefruit finish. 7 / 3 / 7 / 3 / 15 = 3.5

Batch 67. Pours a dark orange/brown with a large white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, piney sweetness. Has a creamy mouthfeel and a smooth, bitter, slightly hoppy taste. Very Good.

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a clear golden color ale with a foamy white head with perfect retention and lacing. Aroma of hops is clearly dominating with some sweet malt. Taste is a good balance mix between some floral and bitter hops as well as some sugar and a nice malt backbone. A tad too hoppy for my taste in barley wine but still very enjoyable and something that I could see aging quite well.

Pours a dirty copper tan color, with a large very fluffy head. Aroma is very cakelike at first, but after the first few sniffs, I can pick up plenty of other things. There’s plenty of citrus, mainly oranges, some molasses and brown sugar, a light pine, wood, pepper, all held together by this sweet doughy element. Tastes almost like a Belgian interpretation of an American barley wine, if one can imagine that. Caramel, wood, brown sugar, and a dry bitter hop flavor combine with a real strong yeast presence. Though the beer has a sweet malt flavor, I think the aroma is sweeter. The taste is less cakelike and more woody/earthy. Some raisins become more apparant now. The finish has a light grapefruit flavor, along with some backseat sweetness. The hops shine here, covering the bases of pine, citrus, charcoal, and wood in a balanced fashion. Bitter and very dry, but not too bitter. Beer feels thick, but drinkable enough, and bit too carbonated for me. A very balanced beer and like Adam, defies all styles while combining good qualities from many.
