The aroma also has old wood and a touch like cellar, it reminds me of some old house. Excellent mix of caramel (prevaling) and malt flavor, getting chewy if it loses some carbonation. Powerful final, well balanced between caramel, bitterness, alcohol. It’s a democracy, in which the caramel is the prime minister.

Parallel tasting with Fred from the Wood
Beautiful color, red-amber, almost still, with a oily surface and lonely bubbles. It has a strong malty aroma, mature at times, with sweet wood too; the aroma fades out, good but not impressive. It has a medium-strong body, with an excellent malt caramel and toffee flavor, powerful, rich. Strong bitterness, but leaving the scene to the malt, and just a bit of alcohol warmth, to complement it. A state of the art Barley Wine. It’s less complex than the draught that I had, and less impressive than the Fred From the Wood, but still excellent!

2007-01-01, draught at d.b.a., NYC, 9-5-9-5-18=46
Hazy amber color.
The aroma is malty, with caramel, but also vinous (winy), very light phenol and glue; raisins and vanilla.
Full mouthfeel, full malt flavor, caramel, light toffee, good hopping (European), light wood character, extremely well balanced.
In the final the hop is more aromatic and with caramel.
Excellent.

Bottle from JJPM74, thanks! This barleywine poured a deep and cloudy orangey brown and was capped with a thick and long lasting off white head that left lots of sticky lace. The nose was candied mangoes, heavy brown sugar, caramel malts, some fruit, a bit of citrus from the hops, some dark bread crust. Tasted pretty sweet, of dark fruits, candied prunes....some other dried fruit, caramel malts again, grapefruit leads to a cirtic rind pithiness. Bitter balances the very sweet molasses like malt in the finish. A pleasure to sip. Thanks John!

On tap at Najas, Redondo Beach Calif. Hazy dark orange. Big big flavor of malt and hops. Delicious yet very strong and I noticed the alcohol on each sip. Great for one pint but couldn’t do more than that.

Batch #72. Pours hazy golden orange color with huge rocky off white head. Pine and grapefruit hop aromas. Big sweet fruit flavor with lots of hoppiness. Alcohol is barely noticable. Medium body with lively carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. A very good beer.

Bottle. Loved the balance and mouthfeel of this beer. Poured a slightly hazy gold with a thin white head. Aroma of multiple kinds of hops. Flavor was sweet, with a delicious muted hop balance. Fruit notes finished the flavor. Medium body with soft carbonation and a wonderful oily/creamy mouthfeel. Great beer!

Getting notebook online. Bottle. Pours a beautiful golden color. Delicious hop flavors, sweetness is presently subdued. Good sweet flavors of various fruits, can’t really place exacts. Very delicious!
