Poured murky orange with sediment and a huge head that fades to a rocky one. Big spicy aroma which carries on to the flavor. Lots of alcohol, citrus, and a finish like fresh rye bread. Just so much going on in this one. Bravo!!

Batch #41. Poured with almost no head. Color is a couldy carmel amber. Has a very fruity sweet nose with a little malt. The flavor starts out out fruity and caramel, but quickly develops a more pungent, spicy finish with a hint of alcohol.

Batch 51. What a beautiful beer! Poured a brilliant deep copper with a thick head that laced the glass. Aroma of apple pie which changed to bananas and vanilla as it warmed. Malty and smooth flavor with a medium body. It hides it’s 10% alcohol very well. You can feel the alcohol but there is little taste of it. Caramel. Just enough hops for balance, but they are subtle. This is between an Old Ale and a Barleywine. Finishes creamy and smooth leaving you ready for more. Wow. Batch 9 sampled on 12/17/04 Thanks to Suttree for bringing this one out of his cellar. 8 3 7 4 16 I think this one has peaked and is slowly going on down the other side, but in any case, had some differences from batch 51. Some murkiness in the appearance of this orange/brown beer. Aroma of caramel, nuts and bread dough, but not nearly as complex as the one rated above. The flavor was good, but just lacked a some of the stand out, brilliant characteristics of the one formerly rated.

Batch 53. Cloudy orange beer with a huge rocky off-white head. Slight pinkish tint. Caramel malt, a heavy dose of spiciness, orange peel, citrusy hoppiness, clove and other fruity smells. Flavour is also very spicy and fruity. Loads of bitterness in the finish. This is a very interesting brew; the appearance and aroma make it seem like a triple but it is very highly hopped for that style. Very soft silky mouthfeel and some slight sweetness. Alcohol is prominent in the finish. In spite of how unusual the combination seems, it works very well. Bitterness mellows a bit as it warms leaving all the gorgeous malt/hop spice aroma to intensify. Delicious.

Batch 55. Poured a golden brown color with a slight off white head. Good lacing, head faded quickly. Aroma is a mixture of malt and slight hops, on the sweetish side. Taste hits you with thick malty flavor and then a pleasant fade to hops. Very nice balance. Full mouthfeel. Great beer.
