Pours dark orange with a white head. Beautiful complex floral-hoppy balanced by malt nose. Mouth is strong, but very balanced. Wonderful beer.

300th Rating - it seems appropriate to rate the beer that first turned me onto good beer for this rating. Honey-clove pour with little head. Mild hop aroma is real fruity-juicey, noting pear and apple. Loads of spice and alcohol in the body balance with clean, bready malts. The ABV warmth is immediately present, warming both my stomach and my mouth. Silky mouthfeel helps to blend the complex body and the moderate hop bitterness delivers a definite, crisp finish. Another great offering from HOTD.

Batch 63. Deep cidery brow color with chunky sediment and creamy tan head. Lovely floral and citrus aroma. Nice balance of hopiness and sweet with fairly thick mouthfeel. Alcohol is apparent but not overbearing. $3.50/12oz

Bottled, Batch 61. Poured a lovely shade of medium honeyed raspberry golden with a substantial cap of fluffy beige head. The aroma was very nicely layered with medium-skinned fruits, bready notes, and rich caramel upfront, spicy rye and white pepper close behind, and a warm, alcohol-amplified smattering of hop influence rounding out the back (pine, citrus, floral, and earthy notes all make an appearance). The flavor was centered around honey, caramel, and bready notes with rising rye and black pepper toward the back (left a grainy, memorable impression on the warm finish).. moderate citrus and perfumey bitterness also hit back there.. tasty and well-balanced. Heavier-bodied on the palate with creamy carbonation cascading the brew through the mouth.. fine bubbles popped as it rolled along, just coating every square inch with flavor.. one of the best mouthfeels I’ve encountered. This was an awesome beer!

Bought @ Steilacoom Wine and Brew. This beer cracks me up every time I have one... The bottle conditioning is the first thing you notice as it bubbles forth from the bottle! This is an outstanding beer that is like a belgian beer and a barley wine combined. "Golden??" Try this dark, murky beer with flavor that doesn’t stop. If you like BIG beers then you’ll love it!
